I don't watch the sabres and I definitely don't have a good understanding of their player evaluation but would you rather have a 3rd round pick then Girgensons? Buffalo to me needs some building blocks and he definitely has potential to be a middle six option. Before all the trades for Scandella and Bealieu I would have suggested making this into a larger deal for Maata but maybe you can work out a better deal that helps the Sabres out right now?

Pens should consider Girgensons, but he really isn't going to be a 3C on a team going for the Cup. He's a good 4C, and they probably need that too.

Maybe he becomes that, but I would think Buffalo just hangs in to him and hope he becomes that for them.

I think they probably want a more reliable option, but idk.

I like the above idea about Buffalo adding Maatta, but certainly would have to get more from Buffalo there

I'd rather take a 3rd over Girgensons, get something out of him before he fades into obscurity

Go Leafs Go. congratulations on a great season. Great addition with Marleau, where do you think he will play. with Mathews or Bozak or Kadri?
IMO the sabres need RD with 5 LD already Maata does not fit.
I am conflicted here, Girgensons does seem to have decent upside, but he has not performed well the last 2 years. So maybe a 3rd is the correct path. On the other hand, why give him up for only a 3rd so I may pass on the trade.

Girgensons is worth more than a 3rd round pick...he's still very young, very cheap, and he's extremely versatile.

Everybody looked bad under Bylsma, Girgensons will look a lot better this year.

No way I would trade him for a 3rd round pick.

Girgensons will make under $1.5 million. Hes 23 years old.

Why would you trade that for a 3rd round pick? 3rd round picks barely play in the league.

3rd round picks rarely make the NHL. Girgensons is cheap and young and has found success in the past. Botterill mentioned him specifically as a guy he likes who can play multiple positions.
