Thought exercise (over the past 4 years):

Kessel: 328 GP (didn't miss a game!) + 111 goals scored
Ovechkin: 320 GP (solid) + 187 goals scored

Ovechkin has 76 more goals, which is 19 more per season. So for that 19 extra goals per year, PIT would be paying Pouliot, Wilson, 1st, 2nd AND taking the extra $2.8M in cap hit.

Not saying it's not a reasonable price to pay. Just wanted to run the comparison. Ovechkin is 2 years older (31 -- 4 years remaining) than Kessel (29 -- 5 years remaining). Is that cap space (and those draft picks) better spent in other areas? Can PIT make a few smaller moves that add up to the 19 extra goals using the same assets, while also making the team younger? Maybe.

4/5 for showing a Malkin/Ovechkin line.

Really bad idea trade for Ovechkin.

First: He will never want to play for Pens and Pens will never want him.

Second: As a Pens fan, I'd hate the idea to have him playing for my team for many reasons. Specially because he's not a team player, he's almost one dimensional player and he's dirty in many situations, specially when he's losing.

Third: Trade for him would put Pens in cap trouble unnecessarility and it would be outrageous see him having a higher salary than Sid and Malkin.

Fourth: If Pens were make a huge trade like that for anyone, it must be for Draisaitl. He's much younger than Ovechkin and probably could be sign for a cheap salary than the one he has (I think he'll worth between 8 and 9M/year). And the most important: Draisaitl is pretty much talented and could be the franchise player after Sid/Geno's era for many many years.

So, surely my idea is much better than yours.

PS: Huge overpaying for Haula.

I know its not possible due to cap reasons, but I think the Caps would like the deal if Kessel was NOT included in the trade. Gee free cap space and the ability to sign for whoever you want.
