Yeah, that's a no from EDM, friend. Tarasenko is already on the line between being worth a 1st and not and yet you have EDM giving up an extra two high picks (one of which can become a 1st) for the "privilege" of swapping their hard minutes 2RD for a soft minute 3LD. Sure, they would likely be interested in upgrading on Ceci, but that doesn't mean they're gonna pay to be rid of him. He's doing just fine as 2RD; it's just there are concerns of how he holds up in a 7-game series against the league's best teams.

Honestly not even sure I take this. Any deal with Ceci is a no. He will drag our team down

Yes from DET, but too many picks. Substitute another prospect and take out the 2nd.

Retaining salary gives us a first. Brannstrom is a far better defencemen on almost all metrics compared to Ceci, and from what I read Ceci is at most a 3rd RD, and we’re taking on salary to make the trade work. Brannstrom has 2LD upside and vans run a PP. guessing you guys trade kulak, he can take his spot

Ottawa has more leverage on a trade with Chychrun in it than Arizona did, and Ottawa gave up a 1st and 2 seconds. So I’d like to think Ottawa gets more for him, especially with desperate teams at the deadline

He’s been better than he was in Ottawa or Pittsburg, but he’s not worth his contract still. He would be a good bottom Pairing guy, as well as an upgrade from hamonic

He would bring down the 3rd pair next year. Slight upgrade on Hamonic is not what I’m looking for next year

Washington's priority is getting younger. I cannot see them taking Kubs from the Sens

No from Detroit as we need a RHD a ton more than LHD (Walman, Edvinsson, Wallinder, etc.). Chychrun also isn’t the type of defenseman we need either plus he’s a bit injury prone.

Disagree that retention guarantees a 1st given how many teams need it in order to make a deal work.

However, even if I grant you that, Brannstrom isn't an upgrade on Ceci in the role Ceci plays. Brannstrom has never played top-4 minutes in a legit shutdown role- let alone done so playing on his offside. Whether or not Ceci is ideally suited to be a 2RD or not, that's the role he currently occupies and fares decently at. The reason EDM is looking at an upgrade is because he has been targeted on that shutdown pairing by COL and VGK in the playoff series' EDM lost the past 2 years. In other words, he gets the job done during the regular season but isn't suited to being in that role when you're pushing for the Cup. He's not the same player he was when he was trying to do too much and playing 22+mins/night in OTT. He's a flawed but capable NHL Dman.

Even if he has 2LD upside (which I'm doubtful of), EDM has two or three LD that he wouldn't beat out, as well. As such, EDM isn't the team that'll view him as "value added" in a trade.

1. Remove the 2nd (which removes the condition), that would mean Ceci is flipped to another team as I can't see him coming back to Ottawa

2- Remove the 2nd

3- Have to retain on 50% on Kubalik

Ottawa's piss poor management when making a trade doesn't mean other GMs have to be that incompetent.

If we were to move Ceci for an inexperienced 3rd pairing Dman we would just test the water with Broberg next to Nurse.
The trade doesn't make sense at all from EDM's POV.
