TDL Picks and Pros

Created by: Rooster
Team: 2023-24 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 6, 2024
Published: Mar. 6, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Is it possible to add a prospect/picks to the cupboard AND get some veteran pros as Staios has stated as a goal?
Trades
1.
OTT
  1. 2025 2nd round pick (VGK)
  2. 2026 3rd round pick (VGK)
VGK
  1. Tarasenko, Vladimir ($2,500,000 retained)
2.
OTT
  1. Smith, Reilly
Additional Details:
The Penguins acquired him for a 3rd rounder, so this is some tidy work to recoup a 2nd rounder. Smith seems to have struggled to find his place in Pittsburgh.
PIT
  1. 2025 2nd round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
Vet pro Stanley Cup champ. Incredible 2-way player who can lead our PK as well. Exactly the type of player we should be targeting.
3.
OTT
  1. 2024 6th round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
Depth player for any Cup contending team. He has shown he can produced in the past. Low cost rental with some upside, particularly in case of injuries.
WPG
  1. Kubalik, Dominik ($1,250,000 retained)
4.
OTT
  1. Lundell, Anton
  2. 2026 2nd round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Extension in place for Chychrun in the offseason.
5.
OTT
  1. Jensen, Nick
Additional Details:
Similar return that Calgary got for Tanev. Jensen has more term, but he's also not @ Tanev's level.
WSH
  1. Thomson, Lassi
  2. 2026 2nd round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
We get some stability at the RHD position. Use the offseason to acquire, even maybe overpay, for a legit top 4 RHD like DeMelo or Tanev.

Caps don't need Lassi. Theyve got Carly, Bear, TvR on the right and even if they trade someone Iorio is ready

I have to say that's a bit underwhelming for Staios' first trade.

I’m wondering if Tarasenko said he’d only waive for Florida which would drive the price down, if not… yeah not great lol

I think you're right. Chris Johnston pretty much said as much saying Tarasenko had a "strong say" in the process. I wouldn't be surprised if it was Florida or bust. So in that case, I guess it is what it is.

The trade was modelled on a 2nd round pick and prospect. Perhaps there's a different position that would better serve the Caps. Admittedly not overly familiar with the prospect pool there.
