You don't need to trade a 3rd for a 6th if you retain Plekanec's contract.
What I would do to make the Habs even better, is trade Plekanec retained at 50% and Gallagher, for Phil Kessel. Benifits both teams their owns ways. Habs get a goal scorer. Pens get a younger guy though to play against.

Interesting. I wonder if Pittsburgh would do that. Gallagher is fiesty and could light it up beside Crosby

Damn, I would do this trade in a heartbeat! Shove Orpik down to 3rd pairing LD, and if he's as bad a pylon as people say, we have the cap space for the next two seasons to just scratch him as a 7D. There would be no hesitation in me completing this trade. Question is, would Washington REALLY do this? Galchenyuk's trade value has really dropped due to his usage and all.

I wouldn't do this. We only have Gallagher and Shaw as the grinding, possession type players. If we acquire Backstrom, I'm confident our scoring woes reduce dramatically. We had no set up man to lead to scoring anyway.

Thing is Washington is a cap crunch team. My second fav team ever since Ovie came to the league so I've been following them for years and some contracts have killed them. They get galchenyuk who is younger and can play both wing and centre plus helps Kuznetsov move up and take number one centre and gets Washington out of orpik trade. Anytume orpik is added it takes value away so they would get more if it was backstrom alone but since I added orpik so they get some cap left to play with and sign guys like eller or Carlson ! I think you guys should of kept eller tbh

I like the concept of that WSH trade, nice work. The Caps have really made some questionable cap choices, and they'll face them again next year. This trade would definitely help in that regard, and give them extra assets to work with.
