Detroit Blockbuster

Description
If Detroit is ready to begin the rebuilding process, this is the package that will do it. Two first rounders (Detroit makes THREE picks in the first round next year, in what is shaping up to be a strong draft), a 20-year old with a season of NHL experience, a young regular 20 goal scorer and a second round pick. Kulemin is included in this deal, however, this is only to make this deal possible from a cap perspective. If I were NYI's GM, I'd be willing to include another mid level prospect (Vande Sompel?), but not much else.

Between Tatar and Zetterberg, the two dynamic forwards scored 114 points combined. There's no way this doesn't make our improve our offense into one of the best in the league, and no part of this deal affects our defense. Tatar would be set to be a Top 6 LW for years to come and while Zetterberg may retire soon, he'd give us at least one or two more seasons of 50-60 point production and Barzal will likely be fully ready for C2 duties by then.

Even the cap situation is better than it looks. While we do need to re-sign Tavares next year, we have several players whose contracts will be up next year. Between Halak, Chimera and Bailey, all of whom can/should be replaced by prospects next season, we will have an additional $11 million dollars in cap space to sign Tavares.

There is a .000000000000000001% chance that Detroit trades Zetterberg for anyone or anything. Perhaps we could interest you in a Sheahan, Riley instead? smile

Not going to lie I'd strongly consider it. Expiring deal, a middle 6 forward who's shown chemistry with Larkin and a good potential center plus all those picks. I'm also ready for a full rebuild don't know how many people are

Don't get me wrong, I understand that Zetterberg is a huge part of the team's production and identity. I wouldn't blame anyone for insisting on Zetterberg retiring a Red Wing.

But I also think that, with as many people agreeing that it's time for a rebuild, now is the perfect time to trade Zetterberg for future assets. I genuinely think that this trade would give both teams several chances to compete for a Cup.

At any rate thanks for the feedback!

Detroit's not trading Zetterberg period, And why would Tatar sign for less with the NYI then what Detroit offered him? He wants 7 years $42 million not a penny less.

Tatar wants 6 mil a year for 7 years? After posting 48 points this season? Hell, you can keep him then. I'd heard he was asking for 5 mil a year.
