Wood can be replaced by a Pavel/Polin/Kovalenko type or resign Duhaime for less than Wood. Colton is a bit trickier but Trenin could do a fine job as 3c for 2m vs Colton's 4m. The depth is fine, its just next man up and the Avs have been building some good role players.

I reject the premise that they can't keep Rants and still have depth. If they trade Rants, they might as well just start a rebuild because they won't win any more Cups without him.

I wouldn't go quite so far as to say they wouldn't win any more cups and they could easily retool rather than rebuild, but that said, there is no real reason to trade him.

I suppose that went a little too far but, even if the Avs did get a player like Batherson, he and, say, Drouin don't add up to Mikko.

My ass a top 15 player in the league returns a haul period, those kind of crack pot comments are a joke on CF. A player like Rantanen returns a massive haul regardless of his contract status, in fact the very first PIECE COL would require is McTavish and go ahead and start adding. I mean COL isn’t trading him but thinking that package gets you a top 15 player is a an utter complete joke, you don’t think a ton of teams would crush that offer if he were on the market.

I agree, COL hasn’t even come remotely close to even considering moving Rantanen, you move Nichushkin, Lehkonen, Colton, Wood, Manson, Girard and even Georgiev before you move him. On top of that COL hasn’t gotten to the point where the entire bottom 6 and 3rd pairing are all million dollar guys.
