Kessel to Arizona

Created by: trdhk30
Team: 2017-18 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 21, 2017
Published: Jul. 21, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I thought this might be a slight possibility. It would be too much money to pay for a 3rd line center, obviously. Could get Duchene for this amount. Would be interesting though. Any thoughts?

I'm not a fan. Stepan has been struggling. I think giving up a piece of the core (Malkin, Crosby, Kessel, Letang, Murray) for a depth center is a bad idea.

Yeah, I get that. I don't know that I would like to see Kessel leave either. Stepan has great potential though, and has played very well during certain parts of his career. He can also play defense. Who do you think the Pens should acquire for 3rd line center?

I like the idea of Duchene, but I don't think it happens in the offseason. Penguins would have to prove they have someone that could fill Maatta's minutes and then he would likely be the big piece of that trade along with a 1st round pick and potentially a Jarry like prospect. I like Soderberg, Bozak, and Eakin as "easier" trades. Penguins would likely require salary retention on each one of those though. Bozak is probably my least favorite out of those due to his limited defensive skill, PK ability, and one year term.

In all honesty I'd like to give the WBS Penguins a go and see what's down there. Blueger could be a solid Bonino replacement. Rowney looked ready for the NHL, Wilson could possibly play center. No point in making a move just to make a move. Back to back cup champions and really not losing much is what GM JR should be focused on at this point.
