Neither would ottawa. Not moving a top 8 pick. We need a good prospect on D more than another winger

You really think Marner waives for Sens? Sens don't have the for Marner anyway, and why would they do it for one year of Marner.
I'm doubting Reilly waives either.

Marner waives for the money, for the fit, and to try to win on a divisional rival. Him, Stutzle and Tkachuk will form the best line in hockey. I like Marner, I just think it'll be foolish to pay him more than Nylander which is what he'll demand.

Rielly would probably waive if Treliving approached him respectfully and told him to give a list of 5 teams. I think if Treliving is ambitious he would want to construct a whole new defense and that means shipping out Rielly.

Without an extension in place then we can't do the deal. Brady - Timmy - Marner would be sick tho. It it possible we include Bath and keep our first this year?

Why trade guys with NTC contracts? Did they ask for a trade? Why would you trade Marner to a division rival so he can light you up for 8yrs? Rielly took less than market value to stay, Why would he waive? At least make it realistic.

It's rather a meaningless post, in you when you have the Leafs roster instead of the Sens roster who are cap strapped now, never mind taking on about 6.4m more this season. As I suggested, Sens don't have the cap for the trade. "Respecting approached"? C'mon, Reilly has no desire to satisfy Trevling's ambitions. Reilly answer would be, "You had a choice and you decided to play Nylander 11.5m..
Marner may leave as a UFA, but trying to find a team to trade for him, who he would be agreeable to trade and has the cap for him.....well try to find a a team.

This team needs dramatic change. The core shouldn't be brought back next year. Matthews is untouchable. Nylander just got a contract. And no one is trading for JT. So the two obvious candidates who have trade value are Marner and Rielly. And this team has proven this year they can win without them.

Sens will offload some players this offseason, it could be Norris, or Batherson. For a player like Marner they'll make cap available.

Letting Marner walk to UFA is poor asset management. I'm sure the Islanders regretted letting JT walk to free agency. Smart teams try to find a trade and get something back for the superstar player they developed.

As for Rielly, it's a conversation worth having. If this team loses in the 1st round again then trading him should definitely be an option.

Teams that out of the playoffs, try to offload UFAs for a return. Teams that are in the playoffs and Cup contenders, actually acquire upcoming UFAs, knowing they have no intention of resigning them.
You think it's poor assets management for the Leafs to let a UFA walk. Leafs are loaded with UFAs, who they didn't pay other teams to acquire them. It would be poor asset management for the Sens to give up so much for Marner, when they could sign him a UFA.
If the Leaf lose in the first round.....why would Reilly be traded? Why not Matthews, Nylander, Knies....the list goes on.

How about we wait for actual playoffs before blowing it up. The organization has quintupled down on this core; so no reason to think they’ll change now. And it’s - to a large extent - out of their control because every core member has NMC. And cap starts to open up next year and really does in 25-26

Matthews is about to score 70, Nylander is putting up a 100 point season and Knies is contributing on an ELC. They are not being traded. Rielly doesn't play PK and he isn't a true PP QB. I love him as a player but he's a luxury piece, not a number 1 defenceman who can play in all situations. I don't think the team will get worse if he gets traded. And Marner is great, but it's foolish to pay two wingers over 11 million each. That's a recipe for disaster. So ideally he gets traded as well to his chosen destination this offseason.

I've already seen enough. I have a long memory. This core can't get it done in the big games. They need a better defense and better depth. Moving on from Marner, Rielly and JT is how that's going to happen.

I don't disagree with your statement above, but any trade is almost impossible due to his high cap this season, Ottawa trades Chychrun at TDL maybe for a first, Sens keep their two firsts and then might have have the cap to sign UFA(s). There is no reason for t the Sens to give up three first rounders.
You may not like the fact the Leafs have four high priced forwards. But look at the Sens...they are right at the cap and don't make the playoffs. Even worse next season, Sanderson gets a 7m raise and Pinto to be signed. Many teams are near the cap and don't make the playoffs. Besides Marner's NMC just might void any trade, as he wants to be his contract season with a very good offensive team.
