Next year 3rd overall

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2024-25 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 7, 2024
Published: Apr. 7, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The hawks appear to be having a strong finish to the season by their standards. While the remaining schedule does not look easy by any means, I think they will find a way to surpass the ducks points totals and enter the draft lottery with the 3rd best odds. Considering what this team has shown with a higher quality of health I think they will be significantly better next year even without major moves to improve the roster. The priorities should be to add depth at both forward and D, but most importantly to sign a guy whose primary role is to play with Korchinsky. Landing a player like Celebrini would be huge for the franchise, but it shouldn’t alter the plan in a significant way should it happen. Assuming that we don’t win the lottery again I think the pick should be Demidov/Leshunov/Lindstrom in that order.

I’m a big believer in Vlasic and while my fellow hawks fans have shown hesitancy to give him 6 AAV over 8 years, citing that he may want a bridge for a bigger pay day, and his limited offensive production, I will die on the hill that signing him long term will be the first move we look back on when the hawks win a Stanley cup.

Reichel has looked better during this last stretch, I’m sure he will want a 1 year prove it deal before signing a longer extension, and I think the hawks would like the same. Signing him at 2.1 seems fair if not an overpay.

Entwistle - He’s not a special player, but I have noticed him a significant amount in the recent games. He seems to be a good 4th line piece and I think it’s worth keeping him around for longer.

Philips - I hope the hawks bring him back as depth. He’s not as bad as the hawks seem to think he is.

The rest of the RFA’s should either be unqualified or used as trade bait/depth. Raddysh is someone I would qualify with the intention to trade, and if I couldn’t find a fit I would sign him before the season as a depth piece.

Depth: Raddysh, Anderson, Guttman

1.
CHI
  1. Husso, Ville
Additional Details:
I could see Detroit wanting to move on from this contract. If Detroit was willing to pay for the hawks to take his deal they could probably work something out.
DET
The hawks could include Söderblom in this trade if they don’t have confidence in him as the backup next season. They could also easily buy Husso out ala Josh Bailey last season.

Right now I would handicap the price as a 2nd in 25.
    2.
    MTL
Another option for depth. I don’t think either team would be interested in paying to move this contract.
      3.
      CHI
      1. Lee, Anders
      Additional Details:
This has been discussed before, but I still think the hawks would take this contract for a first round pick *sometime* in the future.

Detroit's not moving Husso, Unless we acquire one of Gibson, Saros or Ullmark and need to clear his cap for a better upgrade.

And Daniel Sprong likely gets more closer to 3 x $4,000,000.

I think Detroit just rides out Husso for the last year on his contract and hope he bounces back.

Lyon is still there for 1 more season.

      Maybe they split the starts?

It's all about buying time for young Cossa who's looking very good right now.

      I can't see Yzerman trading a 2nd just to dump a player.

The issue with all 3 of the players you’re looking to acquire via trade is that they all have modified no trade clauses and I highly doubt they’d wanna accept a team to a team like Chicago at this point in their careers

Lee won't cost a first to dump at most 2 seconds. Unless the islanders are getting at the very least a mid second back there is no reason to attach a first

Your terms are acceptable to me. If it’s in 2024 I would gladly send back one of Vancouver or LA’s 2nd rounders.

Yea I'd say that's fair to drop back 30ish spots and dump 7 million in cap. IIRC Lee grew up a Hawks fan so this truly does seem like a perfect fit

That’s always helpful for the media to sell a player to the fans, outside of the value I would only hope Lee is a high quality individual who will help the young hawks grow.

Don't think Detroit will dump Husso and not at that price. Don't see us going out and acquiring another goalie either.

Lee is honestly still good. Key word good, and good doesn't merit a 7 million contract. Great captain too a nd it fits Chicago plan of surrounding Bedard with leaders and former MVPs like Folingo, Perry and Hall, Lee would fit right in

Husso is still Detroit's #1 goalie and Lyon has played well at times but he's wildly inconsistent,

I agree he isn't getting dumped and shouldn't all things considered. However in a hypothetical scenario in which does and Lou uses a first, he should return at least a 2nd. I don't want to pay to dump anyone, I'd prefer to trade him during the 2026 deadline or 2025 draft, I feel if we retained 50% we could at the very least get a 2nd, maybe a 1st

he's a 30+ goal scorer with great analytics who had a down year and is our captain. And Lou would never pay to dump him.

A buyout is more likely and that is very low. I think we don't dump anyone but if we did it would be Pageau and that's it, and I highly doubt it. Ofc in an ideal world we move Mayfield, Engvall, Lee, Pageau, Palmieri and get positive value for all of them then trade for Buchenvich, sign Guentzel, etc, but this isn't happening.

Realistically id say its 10% we dump anyone and far more likely we trade our first for a cheaper player on a good deal but not worth it. Like 2025 summer RFA

i agree, Lee is most certainly not being traded, he is still good but that's the problem he is just good and just good does warrant 7 million. Honestly it is probably best if we run it back next year and not do anything stupid

using all of our draft picks is the best move IMO, then we change things up summer 2025 with better clarity on roster. We can adjust to a 2026-2028 window but we will need to shift the core a lot. Gotta wait for that tho

He has not been "great" at all. He's been OK and is definitely not as good as he used to be. But I agree they wouldn't trade a first to dump him.
