Even with Tavares being severely underpaid the Leafs don't even have room to re-sign Matthews & Marner.

That's my point lol leaf fans seem to think they can keep everyone and Tavares will come play for free

I like your idea of the Leafs trying to sign Tavares for 2018-2019 as a UFA but i think they should only sign him for 1 year at $7 million. Taveres gets a 1 year chance to go for cup with Babcock and probably makes more money in endorsements in TO to compensate him for taking a salary cut. He then goes off the books to allow Leafs to sign Matthews and Marner on long-term deals.

If he wins Cup in TO he goes down as a hero for winning and coming back to Canada.

He can then sign his 8 year deal after winning a cup in TO.

No that's unrealistic fans who live in a dream world majority of the fans know it's impossible to sign everyone they need to sign and JT
