Montour Re-Upped and Lundell Bridged

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2024-25 Florida Panthers
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 10, 2024
Published: Apr. 10, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a not-entirely-complete construction in response to the many comments I have seen asserting that Anton Lundell will be a cap casualty this summer.

It may make more sense to re-sign Brandon Montour and Lundell instead of Sam Reinhart and an entry-level-contract player.

The Montour contract is so long to permit greater front-loading so that the last two or three years are buyout-comfortable.

I've kept as many of this year's roster-fillers as possible to allow for a closer comparison of potential effectiveness. And I've given all of them raises.

Note that a lot of anguish would be saved by trading Spencer Knight. It might even be possible to re-sign Sam Reinhart for $9 million if Lundell would take less.

All in all, it will be an interesting off-season for the Panthers.

I can't see a way the Panthers re-sign both Montour and Reinhart without trading (basically giving away/sending assets... who wants that contract) Spencer Knight.

I wonder if Ekblad or Verhaeghe are available this offseason to free up space to retain Reinhart and Montour. Not sure they can afford both Reinhart and Verhaeghe in the future.

Yes, that was my conclusion . . . it's actually possible to re-sign Reinhart, Montour and Lundell if Spencer Knight is traded away.

Personally, I'd much rather lose Knight than any of the other three because at least Florida has a proven goalie ahead of Knight, whereas they have no one anywhere close to replacing Reinhart, Montour or Lundell.

I have wondered if you guys let Montour walk and Resign Ekblad next year or visa versa. Knight gone save money but Bobby is 35+ and you need a future goalie and Knight should still be that guy. Has a solid dependable AHL year this year and should be the backup next year I would think! Hope is Reinhart stays and the low income tax in Florida allows you to pay him slightly less than other clubs can but he still takes more home at the end of the day.

100% but Florida likely has to give up assets to get rid of Knight... can't see any teams wanting to take on a goalie with a $4.5M cap hit who hasn't played in the NHL in almost two years and has been meh in the AHL this year.

Their future draft pick pool is almost as barren as the Bruins

It’s been a year. He took off last March or February. And he’s not going to cost Florida anything to get rid of. But he won’t be traded why trade him. Let Reinhart walk he’s not gonna have another 50 goal season and he’s gonna get overpaid.

Any shot you guys move on from Knight to maybe try to keep Reinhart? Losing 50 goals is not a great thing for a team who is in their window. could be the easiest way to get out of some cap, I am sure san jose would be interested

I think San Jose would take him without assets.

What is the latest on Knight? How’s he doing playing wise and outside of hockey? I liked that kid when he first came up. Sad to see young guys struggle, go thru what he’s gone through. Hope he figures it all out. Still have plenty of years left.

I think that he may be worth as much as a second-round draft pick, but both of your 2024 seconds are top-48 so I don't see a deal there . . . maybe the Tampa 2024 third and one of your two 2025 fourths?

Blackwood? Or Blackwood + a pick?

Or would that kind of negate the cap help

Yeah, the object is to get 100% cap relief.
