I fully agree with that.
I really just wanna be good first and deal with the money later... but here's my extension thoughts:

Quinn bridges 4.5M x 2 years. Gets extension with Skinner off the books.
Peterka either bridges 5M x 2 years and gets extension with Skinner off the books, or if he goes off more next year then it'll probably be best to get him locked up at 8M x 8 years.
Greenway, Rousek, Johnson, and Levi should all get 1M each for a year or two.. Maybe Greenway and Rousek even get replaced by Kulich and Ostlund.
Byram is the tricky one... He could warrant anywhere from like a 5M AAV to an 8M AAV depending on next season... Maybe he gets moved with Rosen for like Theodore who will be expiring and VGK won't be able to afford him... It's hard to have 4 dmen making over 4M and still pay your elite forwards.
At the end of the day, good teams lose good players.

Theoretically yes. But UFAs don't always come with team control and a still on the up development curve. The pipeline is full in Buffalo and there's a core already locked up. Might as well use assets to bring in elite pieces.
