Description
The Habs assets that they can spend in order to make this team better are:

-A ton of draft picks which they won't have room to sign if they use them
-A ton of cap space

They actually don't have a lot of players to trade which other teams want. If they can sign a couple of free agents to bolster the top 6 using their cap space, this team can make BIG inroads next year. Here's the moves I see that may be reasonable:

1) Find a way to dump Anderson so we can sign better free agents
2) Sign Monahan & Lindholm to be your veteran 2nd line
3) Give Barron a Harris-style deal and have them duke it out for along with Struble & Xhekaj for the bottom pair

I know most Habs fans only want players around Nick & Cole's ages, but these are the 2 players we can realistically sign without trading away the future.

Additional Details:
@RecycleShark led me to believe there may be an appetite to take Anderson's deal.

The compensation is basically covering his overpaid salary over 3 years. He's overpaid by about 2.5M/year based on what he brings to the game.

I will also add that his lack of willingness to work with a mental performance coach was the nail in the coffin for me. After the treatment Armia received and his turnaround... Anderson should be willing to try anything.

I value Evans at about a 3rd or maybe a 2nd. Consider that to be a part of the compensation for taking Anderson along with a 3rd round pick per year

I can’t really see that getting a team to take in Anderson’s contract

A 1st will be needed to dump Anderson

idk why this is an issue for Habs fans right now. You arent contending and wont for at least 2 more seasons

Hold onto him then pay to dump him later when its not as hard. Not team is adding his term, that's the issue. A lot of players are overpaid but few are for 4 years

If Montreal rentain somes money : the Flyers.

Josh Anderson was the former favorite player of Torts when he was with Columbus at the time.

Since HuGo arrival, they are collecting assets. They will continue to do so while they are in a rebuilding state. You don’t dump him with a retention because you will be stuck with salary when you are starting to gave a playoffs contending team. The wise thing to do is to keep him and hope he’ll be better next year. He might suprise and have a positive value next year or the year after.

The scenario is that Montreal will gonna receive Johansen + picks, but MTL will gonna send also somes Draft picks.

It's only 3 years... and teams don't mind selling their retention space.

2-3 M in retention has been sold for a 3rd or a 4th the past 2 trade deadlines. My argument is that if you take about 2.5M off of Anderson's contract, he seems like a useful player at 3M.

Now you can certainly argue whether Anderson is useful at 3M, but @RecycleShark has been posting the past few weeks about a deal like this one.

As to why I want him gone, it's because I want to sign a few UFA players and Habs fans are worried about how they are gonna give everyone and their mother who has never scored more than 38 points in the league an 8 year deal.

Anderson is on a steep decline while I would say yes he is overpaid by 2.5 mil this season think it jumps to 3 next year 3.5 the year after and 4 in the final season (very similar to Hoffman) 10.5 over 3 season should be at min a 1st plus more and like what was mentioned above Montreal has the space so why waste the draft capitol.
But for the sharks this just isn’t quite enough!
And Evans is a good depth C why love him?

Sorry. My comments were around cap hit, not actual dollars... I doubt any NHL owner is very concerned about the actual dollars compared to the cap hits if they are operating at a profit, and certainly the GMs don't care very much.

Anderson needs a fresh start with a different coach and the Habs should be willing to pay, "within reason" to get him one.

I might be the only Sharks fan interested in Anderson. smile Sharks need to get bigger. We've got a lot of smaller forwards: Bords, Gush, Eklund, Smith. Need some power forwards for protection and net front presence. Anderson seems like a power forward cap dump who could bring other assets as well. I probably didn't ask for enough to take him in previous posts. He's not too far removed from productive seasons and might rebound with a change of scenery. I thought Kovacevik could add some size to the Sharks defense as well. Rob might be right that it would take a 1st to dump Anderson, but I can't see the Habs paying that.

First interested in Anderson when I saw some proposed Vlasic for Anderson bad contract swaps. Have since been convinced that isn't a good idea.
