Description

Toronto gets a #1 Defenseman that the desperately need while also getting cap relief to make moves to compete.

Carolina gets a top line Winger to inject even more offense, and also gets a relatively young and proven goalie who is a playoff performer.

Vegas gets picks to either use or leverage at the deadline and cap relief to be able to not only make moves to improve the depth further, but also gives them ample room for resign Marchy and later pay Eichel, Hague and Thompson the raises they are due as the cap continues to climb.

If you threw in like Roy and a 2nd I'd accept, but why does Carolina need another goalie?

Freddie and Raanta are both old as hell, leaving them with only Kochetkov as a competent goalie who isn't about to retire. Leafs would not be getting a #1 D man, Roy and a 2nd when they are being handed their biggest need and 6 million in cap relief. Marner ain't even worth that in a trade in you ain't directly weighing value with needs.

Theo is younger and cheaper. Petro deal is going to look crap in a few years, while Theo sets the leafs up for nearly a decade with a #1.

He also shoots left which isn’t what they need, he’s relatively small for what Treliving usually targets, and we definitely aren’t interested someone who’s only got 1 year left on their contract unless it’s a sign and trade. Leafs are looking for right shot defenders who are big, mean, good net front presence and are able to make plays under a heavy forecheck. There’s a few different pieces on Vegas id consider but not Theodore.

Shed Ted is really good but i think the leafs would rather pursue him in free agency considering vegas is likely to have cap issues rather than trade marner
