Using the projected $87.7 mi cap

Vegas loses two young defensemen that regressed from their cup season into the following, but clears up space for two players from our defensive system that are ready for the jump to battle for the spot. Most importantly Marchessault comes back on a home town discount to finish as a Knight, as well as some important forwards being brought back with cap to spare

Do they? I mean, the value is fine, but the last thing we need is another big lumbering defenseman. We need more speed on the back end so we're not constantly pinned in the D-zone.

He's better than any of our bottom pairing including Mayfield...and younger

We have five defensemen under contract, and of those five, only one is good at carrying the puck in transition. We need to fill that one open spot with a dude who can skate with the puck, not another stay-at-home guy.

The understanding of me saying yes to this deal is moving Pelech in a package for a scorer and/or just moving Mayfield for something.
