What would be the motivation for the Ducks to trade a potential good NHLer for a career AHLer? Doubt if Bieska would waive his NMC for Montreal.

Like others have said, good luck getting Bieksa to waive his NMC. The Ducks aren't giving him up for free. Bieksa and Steel > McCarron and Pick. Easily. Ducks say no.

I like the trades for Montreal because they are a jump start on the rebuild that will happening after this season when bergavin is replaced.
S steel could be a real sleeper pick up. Had great year in whl playing with Adam brooks.

You like them because they are one-sided towards the Habs. The Ducks know who Sam Steel is, they aren't ignorant to the fact of how good he is. They aren't sleeping on him and you can't get him for a 1 year cap dump who won't even waive his NMC for a Depth Player.

Agreed. But let's assume that hypothetically, Bieksa agrees to waive his NMC. Would you agree to the tweaked trade below?

MTL Sends:
M. McCarron
2019 1st round pick
2018 2nd round pick (higher of MTL or CHI)

ANA Sends:
S. Steel
K. Bieksa

COL trade is terrible imo. Mitchell is very serviceable as 4C and on PK, and I do think Davidson has reached 5-6D level, but don't know if he'll make 4D level (though there's still room). I'm cool with trading him because of our logjam at D, but not for two nothings as prospects... Come on, you might as well have said a 5th round pick and it would've been a better return.

EDM RNH trade works well, but no need to send Redmond as well. Though I believe he should be trusted at 6-7D as a very serviceable possession guy, he at least holds the fort in the AHL, and that has value for us.

PIT Plekanec trade might work, depending how needy they are. Just a 2nd round pick though, no need to chip in more. And retain all 3M instead of 2M. We have the space, we owe at least that much cap relief for that big return.
