Does Montreal do this?

I am not in a the knowledge of LA prospects and their lines. So don't take this too seriously. Kind feedback is always welcomed.

LA gave up so much to get PLD. I can't imagine that they'd give up on him after just 1 year. That seems to be what I've heard from most Kings fans as well.

I don't think Boston needs to send out the 3rd round pick along with Ullmark to get a 1st round pick back in general (NJD fans seem fine with a 2025 1st for Ullmark swap), although the fact that it is a 2024 pick is probably appealing to the Boston FA. I imagine they'd consider sending something more to bump the pick to 2024, but a 3rd rounder is a bit steep.

BOS declines. They aren’t sending a pick back to LAK in that trade.

Not sure why Boston would prefer a 2024 pick after the drop off over a 2025 pick.

Montreal doesn’t want Dubois. He is one of the biggest cap dump in the league. It would cost Byfield just to move him

I don't think either of those things are necessarily true, but likely the only way Montreal would make a trade for Dubois is:

-that there is retention so that he doesn't have a higher cap hit than Caufield and Suzuki
-Montreal sends someone like Anderson the other way
-Montreal isn't giving up any quality futures

LA should just buy Dubois out.

Just plain old temporal discounting coupled with the fact that the prospect pool is already thin. If they make the pick a year earlier, the player is more likely to be NHL ready a year earlier. They also don't pick until round 3 this year, while they have a 1st rounder next year.

OK but LAK has the advantage of not having to send a goalie back to BOS. There will be a healthy market for Ullmark & LAK have as good a chance as anyone, especially being across the country. Not sure if LAK ownership still hold a grudge for Jones being flipped to SJ...

None of that changes the fact the BOS won’t be sending a pick with Ullmark, such as in the above hypothetical trade. Certainly not a 3rd. Ullmark for a 1st is fair imo.

Dubois is a third liner getting paid 8m. He has as much negative value as superstar have positive value

Dying about a 3rd round draft pick is certainly a choice

If you think that the inclusion of a 3rd to LAK isn’t a big difference, then you don’t know hockey or how the NHL works.
