Not if Rob Blake wants to keep his job no owner is going to like paying a guy $17,500,000 to not play for them. Especially after giving up the assets they did to get him.

What team wouldn't be interested in paying a guy they just signed last year $17.5 million over the next 7 years to play for someone else? Totally realistic expectation.

It's better than paying him $60MM over the next seven if they're having buyer's remorse.

I see a lot of Kings ACGM's unloading him; I'd be happy to take him if it meant getting rid of Mayfield.

It was his first year with a new team, it's not like he forgot how to play hockey. No chance ANY GM/team owner withholds 7 years of salary to move someone they just signed. It's absurd to think so.

Not for Mayfield. A buyout is $2.7m in average costs so that would be the salary retention. I think it'd be someone in the $5.5-6.5m range who can put up 50-70 points per season. Another middle-6 center, but less defense-focused than Danault.
