Teams with great offense but just average defense win many games in regular season, but inconsistently. However, just balanced teams with good offense and defense can win Cups.

We saw that last season. Before we trade for Streit and specially Hainsey, our team was struggling in defense and being inconsistent. After the trade, Pens becames a more balanced team and this is why we could win the Cup again.

So, this is why i think you strategy isn't a good one. Trade Määttä and none to replace him would be awful tp the team. Ruhwedel is not the guy to be a a regular starting d-man.

Besides, Red Wings have no cap to acquire him today. I totally disagree with the idea to trade Määttä. But if you want to, you should trade him to Avs.
