Honestly it's getting ridiculous how Leafs fans think Tavares is ever going to waive

To be fair, seems like just about every fan base on here is nutty about something

My fellow Sabres fans, for example, keep posting about us trading Skinner- and that’s just delusional

Nobody it taking Marner before the draft when he has a 7M signing bonus on July 1st. Tavares almost certainly isn't waiving. Not enough for Andersson

true, and it is probably since I am an Islander fan and had to deal with being trolled all offseason by the two biggest fan bases that we lost Tavares and since he posted that bedsheet photo like 10 minutes after singing in Toronto saying he is living his childhood dream

I could see Tavares waiving for BUF. He has BUF roots. Obviously things aren't working out so well in TOR for him...maybe he's sick of the 1st round exits. I'd say BUF has a better chance of winning a round in the playoffs next year than TOR does (as currently constructed). BUF has D and G, which typically lead to winning in the playoffs. Plus with Ruff back in town, he knows he would be playing for a coach that has been there and done that.

And Tavares is a player than BUF needs- vet, wins faceoffs, could play our "3C" role...if you wanna call it that. BUF will be rolling out at least 3 lines fairly evenly.

Clifton is tough to give up though. We need more physicality....not less.

We could part with Joker in such a deal...or Skinner (retained salary).

I mean, STL did it with ROR and that seemed to work out for STL.

Besides him living his lifelong dream to play for the Leafs,
wtf would he purposely wanna go from one of the league’s best teams, to one who can’t even make the playoffs???

Makes zero sense

I stated why he might. Leafs are one of the "best 16" teams. That's not that great.

Funnier part is they won a playoff series in Toronto before him 🤣

Unless he captains the leafs to a cup he is arguably one of the if not the most overrated player in NHL
history

His uncle on the other hand greatest lacrosse player ever for the Buffalo Bandits

Incorrect. That was the entire point of the trade. To move him before the bonus.

https://thehockeywriters.com/revisiting-blues-trade-for-ryan-oreilly/

"Viewed as a cornerstone piece to the Sabres franchise, and a pivotal building block in a long-running Sabres rebuild, O’Reilly’s trade was viewed as one that netted quite a haul for the franchise in an attempt to add multiple pieces to their teams’ depth chart. The deal came down to the wire as O’Reilly was owed a contract bonus worth $7.5 million by the team that owned his contract at midnight. If he remained a member of the Sabres the following day, the price to acquire the forward would have been vastly different. “It certainly, to me, changes the dynamic of anything from an asking price or what we’d be looking for from a trade perspective,” Botterill said."

You nailed it honestly. The leafs are still going to be good next year, they are a regular season playoff team and will finish top 3 in the Atlantic. The only place I see him waiving is the islanders tbh

He's already lived his dream. Now it's a recurring nightmare. I highly doubt NYI want anything to do with him after he shafted them.

Well unless the leafs strip away his captaincy AND leafs fan treat him harsher than our fanbase did he is never going to waive. His wife is from Toronto, he had 2 kids, the bedsheets. Now I understand almost all pro athletes would want to play no matter what that is how competitive they are but when you are threatening not to play them you are basically saying

" I am going to pay you 11 million to sit around and do nothing"

I doubt he waives...but I won't say there is a 0% chance. He can drive to BUF for every game. I think it's an interesting concept.

To pretend you're in Tavares' head is....pretentious, by definition.

Wym by that last part? Pro athletes don't want to sit around doing nothing they are some of the most competitive people around. Obviously if we were offered 11 million to do nothing we'd love that since we are an average joe. I agree there is a small chance but it is definitely close to 0% than to 5% if we are being honest, on top of that who would take that contract + who would want a leader like

Interesting, I can see how that would matter to the Pegula family. It does clearly state that it changed the value of the trade. Simply put though there is no chance in the world Toronto retains on Marner, if a team wants Marner but they need him retained a 3rd team would have to be involved and that team is not going to want to pay a penny of his bonus. MLSE is not the Pegula's. They can absolutely afford to pay him first to make a trade work

Lol, not really fair. You want him to do something no one has done in 58 years to be rated as a player. Don't think it's reasonable to expect him to be like his uncle, when his uncle is the Gretzky of Lacrosse. Makes me wonder if Gretzky could have won a Cup in Toronto

Tavares will go down as one of the elite players of the NHL, but there are plenty of players ahead of him and a whole lot will pass him. It didn't really help him that he lost his legs pretty fast like Ovechkin, but he was never as good as Ovechkin and hasn't really changed anything in his game like Stamkos did when needed in terms of moving to the wing or becoming more of a playmaker. Unfortunately, for him in hindsight it seems like it would be been better for him to stay an Islander over a Leaf, just in terms of the pace the Islanders play at and his role as a leader in the room. If feel like the Toronto locker room was not, nor will it ever be fully his and that he's more like an alternate captain than the Captain. I don't think the Leafs should necessarily abandon him beyond next year, but if they bring him back (if he's good enough), they should strip him of the captaincy and make him and alternate. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not blaming him as a leader but just an observation, considering the amount of ex-captains and veterans the Leafs brought in, and who Matthews and Marner were looking up to when they were young. I also do wonder if Morgan Rielly feels like he got snubbed.

Just a terrible and horrible offer for Andersson as always.

You can't get our best RHD for a borderline bust, a decent prospect, and a late first.

You actually have to give up value to get something good in return, this isn't NHL 24 on rookie mode.
