What would Toronto fans think about this trade

Created by: Jacketsman61
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 2, 2024
Published: May 6, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Marner and Tavares have NMC which are unlikely to be waived. Toronto also has no draft capital in 2025 so a sell off of Tavares and Marner makes no sense either bc Toronto would not be reaping the benefits. This trade uses the 1st round pick this year plus Cowan to bring in real depth on defense while adding a good young scorer and some depth wingers.

Why would Columbus do that?

One day we're going to see Easton Cowan net McDavid at 50 % retention and a 1st on this site.

The Leafs wouldn't accept, they aren't going to further deplete their prospect pool for what they can find in free agency in terms of secondary scoring and defensive depth. More than likely they will draft a defender with that pick.

On the other hand, what is the point of the trade for CBJ? Are you predicting that the new GM is going to be too lazy to sort out the RFAs lol?

It's mocking the trade proposals we usually see here between these two teams. Here's a pile of quantity for your quality. It's usually the other way around.

I know it's not a serious proposal, but...I don't hate it? On one hand it's a lazy way to sort through a bunch of RFAs, while doing not a whole lot for either team, and it's likely off on value.

...but on the other hand, CBJ land a 1st and a good prospect for a bunch of depth pieces and Chinakhov? Toronto gets 5 young, cheap, NHL-ready pieces to fill out the roster? I feel weird about it...

I just felt like getting in on the action. Like what was said before, Leafs fans tend to try to pump their garbage to other teams expecting diamonds in return. I value Chinakhov more than a 1st. Maybe not what other teams value him at but he still has untapped potential.
