Forget Tanev if the hawks are looking at RHD and paying $6M to $7M and go after Matt Roy on a short term deal. Move Murphy for Marner + a late 1st instead; maybe throw in Raddysh rights or one of the LHD prospects.

You guys are something else. Getting out from under the worst contract in the game and getting a 100 point Selke finalist for a 2nd is the biggest win ever. But not good enough eh?

This has nothing to do with whatever snake oil you're trying to sell us.

A.) We're not trying to trade Seth Jones. You call him whatever name you want. We're not trying to trade him.
B.) We're not winning the cup next year. With or without Marner. So, why?
C.) We're not falling into another Seth Jones 2.0. My position on that trade is VERY clear. Link below if you want to search my comments. My position has less to do with Seth Jones as a player and more about Stan Bowman's awful asset management.

This is a standard lose-lose situation. The Hawks shouldn't be sending assets away. We need to continue our development. Sign UFAs or make genuine hockey trades if an opportunity presents itself. Don't fall into the same Seth Jones trade where we don't end up getting any contract discount anyway. Just sign the UFA if that's the route you want to go.

Agreed and you are not trading for Marner to win next year. You're trading for Marner to give Bedard actual help in the forward group. If Toronto comes around with that trade i would take a second rounder which we have multiple and make it every day of the week to ensure we develop Bedard to his fullest by supporting him now so he can dominate when the window opens.

This would be considered a hockey trade for starters. Hawks have an abundance of picks to use as assets this way and the point is to make sure Bedard develops into his best version. I truly don't like signing as many defenseman as I did but if you can get away it for now go for it. In terms of Marner, you only make the trade if you know you can sign him and you like the term. I cannot project that, but assume given the Vlasic deal it is part of the conversation.

Regardless of whether the trade is good value or not, (I don't think marner gets traded; I think he signs long term, which is good for the Leafs), people got so caught up in ****ting on Seth Jones under colliton but have failed to check back into reality this season to see him playing better under a system that suits his playstyle a lot better

This to me in Bold is the issue. Seth Jones did not give us any discounts and nothing I've heard says Marner the hometown Toronto kid will give someone else a discount when he and his agent have made it very public that he's already given enough discounts to the Leafs. No more.

And this is not ever going to happen. Marner has huge value, whether people want to admit it or not.

Those are very underwhelming numbers for a 9.5 million dollar player.

Agreed. I think this is a lose-lose trade. Marner would walk and we lose out on a serviceable RD. Is Jones overpaid. Yes, but I think it's only by a little. I don't view his contract worse than Jeff Skinners AT ALL. 25 ATOI against the opposition's top talent on a night in/out basis. You keep Marner and everyone's happy.

Yes. Bad contract. Probably overpaid by a couple million a year. We get it. But far from the worst contract in the league. He eats minutes and is a positive producer.

I actually like Jones as a player. He is overpaid by a $1-2million with more term than he deserved, but he is here. The contract isn't great given that so i would rather upgrade in quality of player especially given the strength of our defensive prospects.

Seth Jones practically forced his way here and now that he's endured what should be the worst 2 years of the rebuild, I doubt he asks to leave

If you notice, I mentioned in the description that it was mentioned as an idea in 32 thoughts today. If i were Toronto i wouldn't do it. I would personally look at trading for Clayton Keller or Cole Perfetti and draft picks. I took an interesting trade mentioned and made it part of the assumed roster construction.

He hates losing though and has made comments to that fact. Move him to a current playoff team and I think he waives his trade protection.

It's not $5M LMAO. Seth Jones at $4.5M would be one of the best contracts in the league and every team would want him. Not to mention, on the Leafs he would automatically be the #1 or #2 D guy on the team...Reilly? Nice way to loose the game in overtime Mr. Cluth Reilly. You are lost buddy

Judging by the Leafs roster the last 8 years, the core 4 are all overpaid and yet Marner will get them by the balls again when he negotiates his new agreement. Which is why the Hawks shouldn't want anything to do with him other than to retain half next winter and you use him as trade since the Hawks have cap flexibility.

Jones is way worse than Rielly. Jones sucks.

Keep him, he's all yours. I have joined the trade Marner crowd but it will be for actual good players not cap dumps.

ZERO interest in trading for Marner unless it comes with a decent AAV long term Extension. Sure, Jones is slightly overpayed, but he aint no dump and top pairing RHD come at a premium and are hard to come by.

Bedard will be fine. We aren't trading high end assets for Marner or anyone, and we aren't trading Jones.
