Let's say Montreal does end up trading for a number one center, and you are told that the player they recieve are one of the following

Duchene
Giroux
E.Staal
Bozak
O'Rielly
Trocheck
Nugent-Hopkins

What would you say would be the order of most likely, if they did trade for one of them

First off: Giroux, O'Reilly, and Trocheck are unlikely to be traded. Also, Staal and Bozak aren't really No1 centers.

This leaves Duchene (who is expensive) and Nuge. Given that EDM already traded Eberle, I could see them keeping Nuge around. Therefore, Matt Duchene is the most likely in my opinion.

I think Drouin's game is more suited for the wing. Galch is probably the better option at center and his numbers support that he should be a center. The problem is Montreal does not see him as a center. Montreal's weakness is at center. I don't think you can have another year of Danault as your first line center.
They should maybe look in their AHL team at give McCarron a shot at playing center because the Habs do not view Galch as a center. Also you want to solve this problem internally, you really do not want to send a ton of assets for a "number 1 center" because those are going to be very expensive. In free agency you are going to be overpaying them because it will be a bidding war. Personally I would like to see the Habs finally give Charles Hudon Michael MacCarron and Nikita Sherback a shot in the line up.

I don't know why Habs fans are really worried about acquiring a # 1 centre. Hate to be negative the upcoming season appear to be "lost". Going to have a lot of trouble just making the playoffs. Save your assets and money and try to improve the team in the summer of 2018 and reload.
This season, sure I would try to spend to the cap and make the team better, but I wouldn't be trading any assets that would just make you just marginally better for this season. And the Habs really don't that much to offer in trades anyway.
