Serious offer to move up to 2 Chicago

Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: May 9, 2024
Published: May 9, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know this is a serious offer because I hate how much I am giving up to move up 3 spots.
I also know this trade only works if Chicago wants to take a Dman in the top5.
My question now is if Habs fans think this is too much.

In a draft where picks 2-6 are a crap shoot, you're way overpaying for that #2 pick. Provided Chicago's FO hasn't fallen in love with a prospect they'd be stupid not to accept. The way I see it, one of Demidov or Lindstrom is still available at #5.

Ya I get what you're saying about Lindstrom/Demidov. The issue for the CH is we can't afford to draft another injury-uncertain prospect. Dach is supposed to be our 2C and he's one more injury away from maybe having a very short career. That's why I don't want to draft Lindstrom

Yeah, but you never know... Brandon Saad had an injury his draft year, too, and as a result slipped into the second round. He turned out to be a VERY good pick.

Demidov is heads and shoulders above any other forward prospect. He's a half step behind Celebrini, with the only reason he is grouped with others below him being the russian factor and some size concern. However, if Demidov comes over a year from this summer, which I believe he will, he will be an all-star level player. Lindstrom, Catton, etc. as of now do not have the ceiling of demidov. Because the Hawks need a RW badly, can't seem them not taking Demidov aside from possibly taking Levshunov if the Hawks feel that strongly about him and filling another need at RHD.

Not true. Demidov is clearly the best player available at 2nd OA. If MTL is trading up to 2nd overall, they are trading up for Demidov.

That's a VERY strong offer. If the Hawks are locked in on Demidov, they probably just take him. If they aren't sold on Demidov, then the Hawks would be foolish not to consider this.

I think the Hawks have to consider this proposal, while Demidov is an intriguing prospect there some concerns about his skating and level of competition he played against.

Picking at 5 Chicago would still get a very solid prospect, Levshunov, Lindstrom, Silayev or perhaps a very underrated (in my opinion) Catton. On top of that two additional 1sts and a couple of young players who could be pieces in the puzzle for the long haul.

Habs would be silly to do this. Demidov is NOT that much better than #5. He's better for sure but Lindstrom, Catton, Iginla, etc are all going to be studs also.

I agree Demidov is one of the most gifted players in the past few drafts, scoring at a higher pace than Kucherov, Kaprizov, and Michkov in their draft years. I also believe Trevor Connelly may be just about as gifted but whoever drafts him is going to have to navigate a ton of well deserved negative press. For me Demidov is the best talent outside of Celebrini but maybe Chicago's FO found red flags we don't know, or maybe they fell in love with someone else.

I agree he's going to be the BPA at #2 but who knows what's going on inside the heads of Chicago's brass. They may have a man crush on Lindstrom's size and potential. Or the idea of Levshunov on the right side for years to come could sway them.

I mean... KD has stated pretty clearly that BPA is a big part of their philosophy. My favorite argument for who to draft 2nd overall is whether or not I think "F#$% YEAH!" when I think of the player. Levshunov makes me think "ok. If you say so." haha

lol. I really don't mean it to be harsh. It's just how I feel about Lev. He just is not someone I consider with the 2nd overall pick. Maybe if we had fallen to 3rd or 4th OA I would start to consider him more seriously. But I don't know how anyone who actually watched him this past season walks away thinking "That is the best player available after Celebrini."

go ahead and trade 3 1st rounders (one of which is a top-5 pick) and most likely 1 more between 12-16 and see what that does to a franchise that is in a rebuild. You quite clearly have lost your mind

That's a fair assessment. I'm hoping with the abundance of defensemen in this draft that Spencer Gill drops to #34 or Chicago trades up to get him. I love his game and he seems like a perfect fit for Richardson.

Spencer Gill should absolutely be there. I think there will be much better available in the 2nd round, though. As far as RD, one or more of Brunicke, Emery, Badinka, Elick, and Mewes could possibly be there, Marrelli, Jiricek, Danford, Kleber, and Soini should almost certainly be there. If I had to guess, Gill probably goes in the 3rd or 4th round, MAYBE late 2nd. I do like Gill a lot, though.

You really think Gill and Jircek are dropping that far? They're both 1st round talents. At least that's what the "experts" are saying.

Gill? A 1st round talent? Who said that? I have never heard anyone say or write that Gill is a 1st round talent. His consolidated ranking on EliteProspects is 76th overall. Wheeler has him in honorable mentions, which comes after his top 64, and Pronman doesn't have him anywhere near his rankings.

As far as Jiricek falling, yes and no. He was touted as a 1st round talent going into the season but then he didn't have a very good first half and then was out the rest the year after getting hurt in his first game of the world juniors and no one has really seen him play since. So, I'm not positive, but I have a feeling people were already starting to sour on him before the injury, at which point he was already ranked in the 20's. I would not be surprised if he fell to the 2nd round. Honestly, I think a lot of the hype around him had more to do with his brother and the name recognition. Not that I don't like him, but I don't think he would've been thought of quite as highly without it.
