The answer really depends.

Is Columbus set on taking Lindsrom themselves? Then no.
Is Columbus set on taking BPA no matter what? Including a defenseman? And are we confident that MTL is taking the best forward available? Then yes, PuckPedia's pick value calculator has even value for 4OA at 5OA and 50OA. But I think Columbus would be more interested in making it hurt a little more for Montreal to get their guy...

If Silayev and Lindstrom are sitting there at 4OA, and Montreal strongly wants one, I'd take this trade and just pick whichever one they don't.

How many more times do we have to tell Habs fans that they aren’t getting Zegras: so get it out of your head.

Speaking as a CBJ fan, I'm not high on how Mesar's game has been since the Habs drafted him. As a result, if I were in the GM's seat and Mesar was the prospect coming back, I'd push for 5OA this year and Calgary's 25 1st-rounder instead of Colorado's 2nd-rounder this year, which is essentially a 3rd-round pick. I'm sure there'd be some give and take there, but moving up in the top 5, even a single slot, is exceptionally rare, and therefore exceptionally pricey.

It’s pretty unrealistic his scenario, if CBJ want Lindstrom, they will take him. If they target a dman, they will draft a dman and MTL will pick Lindstrom. But MTL aren’t trading a bunch of future just to get THEIR guy.

This pretty much covers it for the Jackets. Still seems pretty silly for Montreal IMO tho.

For the Preds... just give up on any hope of ever getting Askarov. He's not available for anything y'all are able to offer. The last time he was rumored to even be in discussions, the target was one of the potential franchise players at the top of last year's draft, and y'all don't have a prospect of that level to offer.

It’s not because it’s pricey, it’s just ridiculous moving up one spot. Don’t know if it actually happen in the past a team moving up one spot

It was 5th OA (David Reinbacher) vs Askarov + 15th OA + I think EDM 1st and MTL declined …

Isn't that the premise of this though? I think if Lindstrom is available, CBJ take him...unless Montreal has identified him as their guy and are willing to give up a huge package of futures to land him, in which case Columbus just takes BPA (likely a D-man). I also think it's unrealistic, but figured I'd at least answer the prompt.

Much like I said on all those KJ to MTL trade proposals: we aren't good trading partners. We have similar things, have similar needs, and have similar timelines to compete.

Well just Anderson already for Zegras and we will stop. Haha.

Some "fans" just keep beating that dead horse. A Zegras trade won't happen, let's just move on.

The most famous one-place move of all time: Tampa Bay moving up one spot in the third round (from #80 to #79) in 2014 to select some stiff named Brayden Point, while Minnesota got the immortal Louis Belpedio.

I'm offended . . . I didn't "check it out" . . . it's the possession of a superior memory. Especially for trivia.

Ask me about "harmonicas." Or "facetiously." Never mind about how the Teapot Dome scandal is related to Pearl Harbor.

Here's the thing, A LOT of gamesmanship will go on from now until draft selections.

If MTL has any indication that CBJ aren't taking Lindstrom, then there's zero point in doing this trade. Just roll the dice and take him at 5th overall. Not to mention that MTL will probably have other targets if he's not available. On the other end, if CBJ do intend on picking Lindstrom and identify him as their guy, then they just keep the pick regardless of what's being offered (unless a MASSIVE overpay if offered, and this proposed deal isn't enough).
Only way this deal works is if whoever is calling the shots in CBJ, puts on show about taking Lindstrom with zero intention of picking him, to try and leverage value from MTL (highly unlikely imo). On the flip side of that, If CBJ want Lindstrom, and want to make sure MTL don't trade up for him, they'll throw a "red herring" and pitch that they aren't interested in him. This would lead MTL to believe he'd be available at #5 and make no attempt to move up.....again, A LOT of gamesmanship.

And this is with just Lindstrom being a target. You can add 100 more variables with the different lists of targets both CBJ and MTL will have. And situations like "what if Levshunov or Demidov are still on the board?" "What if CHI or ANA go off the board or trade down with other teams?" etc...

Yeah I agree 100%, there's just so many variables, and so many unlikely ones, that I'd have a hard time believing we'd see a pick swap. Is it in the realm of possibility, and is the proposed value here close? Sure. I think that's the extend of the discussion we can have on a fantasy site.

It's a fun proposal, though, I've had a good time talking about it! Is it June yet?

No way to know for sure, but if true it's kind of irrelevant that MTL picked Reinbacher. Michkov was still available at #5, NSH made their supposed offer, and MTL valued their 5th overall selection more.

Makes me doubt it was for Michkov though... You'd imagine that NSH would've made the same offer to ARI at #6, and I highly doubt ARI would've valued Simashev over an Askarov + 1sts package (And it's clear to assume ARI wanted Reinbacher since he was, and still is, the best Dman of that draft class).
