CBJ Opening Night 2024-25

Description
This represents a patient, conservative approach to the offseason, with a new GM and possibly new HC coming in. No need to blow everything up; let's see what we have in the young kids, actually get them some PP and PK time, and help them develop. Dillon is the best fit I could find on the left side, which is where I think the Jackets really need immediate reinforcements on the blue line; Provorov is likely to be moved at the deadline, and at that point either Mateychuk or Svozil should be ready to have an extended audition at the NHL level.

As for the rest of the forward prospects (Brindley, Dumais, LDBB, Pinelli), let 'em cook in Cleveland for a while and see how they develop. Wouldn't mind seeing Olivier or Danforth moved out and Malatesta brought up instead. And yes, I know Jenner's better than a 4th-line player, but I wanted to keep the Russian line together, Sillinger is good enough to play 2C and deserves that chance, and Fantilli is the 1C of the future. So down to 4C goes Jenner, unless you move Nylander down to the 4th line and shift Kuraly to the middle... which won't happen.

  1. 2024 7th round pick (ARI)
  2. 2025 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Another reclamation project for Utah, who've done well with other teams' scraps defensively (Durzi, Valimaki). All it costs them is a 7th this year and a (likely late) 2nd next year while picking up a 3rd-rounder this year. Not bad work.

  1. Bean, Jake [RFA Rights]
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (TOR)

Will Kent be healthy enough by the start of the year?

I have no idea what Bean is worth, but CGY is an unlikely candidate for such a trade IMO.

We have stocked up on a bunch of 5-7 D-men both through trades and waiver claims. We also got a bunch of AHL prospects knocking on the door.

I'm a fan, it's tidy work. I doubt we get that much even for Bean's RFA rights, but that's the right idea.

Only major issue: I think Elvis on the roster next season is untenable.

If he's not, then that's how you get Malatesta up to the NHL level with KJ on IR. I'm assuming he is.

Thanks for the feedback! Any other teams you can think of who'd be a reasonable candidate for someone like Bean?

I disagree, honestly. I think new management and new coaching could bring out a lot from Elvis, and I think he's been given a bum rap by a lot of fans. But who knows?

I'd probably try Utah, NSH, and TBL. I think all those teams will have spots open at the bottom of the rotation. That said, those spots are often filled in free agency or by prospects.

Thanks for the suggestions! I changed it to Utah (for posterity, it was Bean to Calgary for a 4th originally).
