Some mocks somehow have Cole Eiserman falling all the way to 10 or even lower. If that happens, the Devils shouldn't make this trade. If he's not there, trade down to get more ammo for a goalie.

Minnesota declines easily, not even close to the right type of return

The type of trade that Minnesota is reportedly after would be like Rossi for Mercer. Not Rossi for a bunch of pieces.

I've seen reports of Rossi for Holtz so that's why i put him in. Mercer would also work too depending on if he asks for like 4 mil.

The only trade attempt reported was Rossi+ for Cutter Gauthier. That’s the type of trade I would expect. I’m not sold on Holtz personally.

Fehevary costs more than just Siegs.

He’ll be an expensive target if we want him. Probably we’d have to trade the St Louis pick

To be very blunt. Yes.

He looked good last year, very good 4th liner. But from everything I saw this year he was exposed as being just a product of Michael McLeod. I don’t think he’s good at all really. But maybe some team will take a flier on his size, and he did have quite good results last year. Although from my view, product of McLeod

Ya completely agree with that summation. Def a product of McLeod. Mostly just a good 4th line guy.

I've seen it on a few sites the THW and a few others suggesting they could be swapped since they both need a change of scenery. In hindsight, Mercer plus an A-prospect/conditional 1st would probs be the asking price.

It would be easier to discuss those sources if you linked them, but so far the only official reports of Rossi being available, let alone actually getting traded, are Russo saying

“Higher than you’d think,” Michael Russo wrote when asked what the chances of Rossi being moved are. “If the Wild could trade Rossi for the same level of high-end prospect, but one who’s bigger and faster, there’s a real chance they’d pull the trigger.”"

It was also reported that Rossi's name was tossed around in talks for Cutter Gauthier.

Anything else is pure speculation from sources that have no other information and are just having conversations like we do here.

THW does not offer reports. They don't do that. It's not a news site.

A Devils fan had a great proposal in another thread that makes sense

Rossi, Gus, Lambos, 13
For
Holtz, Casey, 10

I think if NJ throws in a 2nd/3rd on this it's a fair deal

Devils fans would love to dump Holtz and Casey on you before you realize they're not actually very good NHL prospects.

I take solace in knowing this would never happen because neither Holtz nor Casey are big or physically imposing, meaning Guerin won't be interested.

I am not sure I am following? Name the big imposing forwards he has drafted and signed since being the GM

Edit: Forwards that mattered

Russo has said if the Wild trade Rossi it's because they want a bigger and faster player of the same caliber.

They accomplish zero of that in that deal.

We disagree on this but that's OK. We both want what we think would be best for the Wild. We just disagree on what that is

Sure but Russo's report isn't really a disagreeing thing. Casey is basically another Addison. Holtz may be taller but he's even softer than Rossi. That doesn't fit the profile that Russo says Guerin is looking for. That part isn't really up for disagreement. Both players are small and/or soft.

This a great convo because really you don't know and I don't know who these guys will be. It's all projection.

I am a big Holtz fan. I am a big Rossi fan. In a vacuum right now, I take Holtz with Yurov coming up the ranks.

Minnesota also needs another guy with a unbelievable quick release on the PP. Holtz has that. Rossi has way better ice vision but Holtz release is sick. Minnesota has enough distributors already.

Spurgeon is getting older. Wild can groom Casey to take over his role. Not saying he will be Spurgeon, just saying the role fits him.

Gus, well, signing Fluery says he is gone. Dumb move by BG but that's our reality. He could have had Gus and Wally for the next several years.

And Russo- He has been wrong lots of times. When a deal is almost done is where he shines with his connections. But actually predicting things outward, not so fast

I don't know what level they'll reach, I absolutely know neither of them are physical, aggressive, or "big" in any sense that matters.

Minnesota does need more guys with better shots, but surely they can find one that doesn't have all the question marks Holtz has. Ohgren, for example, is one. Yurov can be another one. That's two without even going outside of the organization. We can afford to not hyper focus on one good quality of this player if we're trading Rossi for him.

There is a lot of grooming required to turn Casey into anything close to what Spurgeon is. Defensively, Case is about as close to Spurgeon as Holtz's goal scoring is to Kaprizov's.

Russo isn't a good analyst, but given all the context clues of the last year or so, it's really not hard to understand how Guerin could be looking to replace Rossi with size and physicality. I mean that's not a leap to just assume that's true.
