With this roster, paying Kampf 2.4M to be 4C isn't too much really. It just means him over Duhaime (for example) + no Giordano, and signing someone for slightly less than what Duclair is making or keeping Robertson for now since Zadorov probably gets 5M anyways, if they can sign him for that, it would allow for Saros to come in with no retention I think.

The Marner trade really isn't going to happen. Nashville will not be okay with giving up fair value. They know Toronto is dealing from a position of weakness. Marner likely doersn't waive for Nashville either. Look what Chicago got for Pat Kane, when they dealt him to the Rangers. That is more likely than the trade or similar trades for Marner you think you might get.

Except Kane had a major hip injury during the time, he had significantly regressed, was 34 years old, and was traded at the deadline basically stating in was NYR or nothing. Such a horrible comparison lol

He was traded well before the deadline, and even with the hip issue was still very productive. Chicago was also more than okay keeping him, plus he's a 2-time cup winner. Marner is thought og as a head case, who doesn't ptoduce in the playoffs, is coming off a high ankle sprain and EVERY Gm knows that injury cpould take an entire season to fully heal from as players like Karlsson, Batherson, etc can atest. Also factor in that Kane doesn't need a goal scorer or an assist guy on his line to produce even at 34. The fact that Kane brought back a 2nd and a 5th? Marner is not going to bring back 500% of what Kane did. Marner's list of teams will be very small likely one or two. Best bet? They hold onto him til the trade deadline and they might get a 1st rounder if they retain 50% of his cap.
