Bruins Sign Two from Vancouver

Created by: BruinsWoahWoah
Team: 2024-25 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: May 12, 2024
Published: May 13, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Only UFA guys worth paying premium for are Reinhart and Guentzal. Lindholm is going to get overpaid... build the depth in the bottom 6 and backend. These moves still give Boston the cap flexibility in the future to make a potential big move and retain all their own talent in the next few years (Lohrei, Poitras, Freddy, etc.)

What is the best case scenario for this team? Right around 100 points in the standings and then a first round exit unless they pull the Leafs again? I think they need to add scoring and playmakers not just more grinders and bruisers if anything is going to change come the post season.

Too much for both Joshua and Zadorov, both term and money.

This is where the lack of high end offensive prospects becomes clear. Freddy, Geekie, DeBrusk, Heinen (who I think we should resign) are all suited to the middle six at best. Coyle and Zacha are middle 6 on any other team, and no one in the prospect pool other than Poitras and maybe Lysell could crack the top 6. The Bs need to pay a premium for skill guys if they want to compete for more than the first round exit because no one is going to show up and be that fix. No Wyatt Johnston, Luke Evangalista type guys who just pop into your lineup.
Spend big on a guy who can play the L side with Pasta if there isn't a playmaking center.

Except this is one of the stronger FA classes in years between all the high end forwards. My perspective is if we were going to pursue secondary players, DeBrusk would already be signed. Also, Sweeney has proven he can bring in cheaper players who can fill a role.

Have always viewed Zadorov as a guy who looks the part, but takes too many stupid penalties constantly. I like Dakota Joshua. Don’t see Vancouver letting him go and believe they will get right of first refusal.

Lindholm has been very good in the playoffs and had a track record that got him a 8 year, 8.5M AAV early in the season. I get he had a poor year with all the rumors, but he’s showing up in the playoffs.

Could also see Guentzel, but my guess is the lack of a #1 center will potentially be something that he considers

Double post.

I am curious to see what happens with these three guys. Vancouver has looked solid and that goaltender is playing well.

Those are basically my thoughts, I think they can keep the middle six guys they have and if Debrusk doesnt want to sign for a middle 6 salary you gotta let him go. The Bruins system just creates 40-50 point guys. The need is top end scoring, need to spend big and put someone up with Pasta. Easier said than done but value signings of career 30 point players hoping they turn into 60 point guys isnt going to cut it and there is nothing waiting in the pipeline right now.

Canucks sign Zadorov for that. Overpay for Joshua which is what it would take for him to leave Vancouver

I like Joshua a lot - I think Bruins need another big body/power forward type in the middle 6... IMO Brazeau has good size/skill but will be held back by his lack of speed. The team has been too passive in games 2-4... they need to be more aggressive and win puck battles.

Agreed on the need to add talent in the top 6... idk whats up with Zacha but he might have been the worst player on the Bruins last night. He had so many turnovers/weak plays in the defensive and neutral zone. He lacked assertiveness to his game.

I don't think Coyle and Zacha can be your top 2 centers. We gotta hope Poitras takes a step forward next year and claims a top 6 role either pushing Zacha to the wing or Coyle back to 3C. Maybe Zacha can be a 1C if he's playing between Guentzel and Pasta. I'd rather give Guentzel $10M AAV than pay Lindholm $7M AAV.

I’m curious what Lindholm and Guentzel are going to make. I also don’t believe Sweeney will let a one year blip change his opinion on a player and their fit. I absolutely believe he will try to get some concession from Lindholm, but I expect most will view his contract as an overpay at first. Put him between Pasta and Zacha, my guess is that will be short lived and I trust Sweeney either way

Fundamentally, I’ve seen a lot Bruins fans say every player is an overpay. That’s free agency. At some point a player is an overpay until the cap grows.

With regards to DeBrusk, my assumption is he’d be signed if they were close on money. It could be flexibility of a bigger player. It could be that Sweeney likes Bertuzzi more and will try to correct the inability to sign him long term. Either way, if DeBrusk isn’t signed before FA, I expect him to be gone.
