To clarify: Corsi For % (or CF%) is the proportion of shots that a team takes, compared to all the shots taken in the games against them. This breaks down into: (Shots For)/(Shots For + Shots Against) = CF%.
This doesn't necessarily mean a team has more possession, or is expected to score more goals; at the moment, there isn't a publicly available way to perfectly measure possession, and high quality scoring chances make a big difference on a team's ability to actually score on their shots. That being said, shooting more than your opponent generally means you have the puck more than your opponent, and no team to date has been able to coach shot quality. So Corsi For % is a good APPROXIMATION for possession, but not perfect.
Even Detroit has a TINY chance at making the playoffs ... but the teams who i could pretty much say 'won't' make it are Colorado, Vancouver, Jersey and Vegas ... Philly might go in there too.
When this is the first post you know **** is gonna hit the fan

There are a ton of teams on the bubble of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Most of the teams on the outside of the playoff picture last year improved, and a lot of the teams that were in the playoffs got worse, but not enough to the point where they'd be locks to miss the playoffs. So which teams have no shot at making the playoffs? I see there being 5 teams -- New Jersey, Vegas, Colorado, Detroit, and Vancouver. Other than that, I don't think it's completely unrealistic to suggest other teams making the playoffs. Teams like Arizona, LA, and Philly were close to being included here but I feel that they have a shot as well.
Who do you think is a virtual lock to miss the playoffs?
So this guy's allowed to say that Philly might go in there but i'm not? not trying to be mean but i don't get it. I think we're both allowed to say that.

He said they were close, but he is on the fence. You simply lumped them in with the bottom-five of the league

I explained to you how they got better. That Schenn Trade might be the best one of Hextall's tenure (Coburn trade to TBL for Gudas 1st (traded up for TK) and a 3rd)
