If you can move both

Description
I don’t really see JT waiving but if he’s looking for an extension that the leafs won’t offer that could lead to a trade this summer. Chicago seems to value veteran talent to go with bedard and they could do a more expensive extension with JT for a couple years anyways.

Keep coming back to Vegas to make the most sense for Marner. They are always after star talent and can probably get him to extend a bit cheaper than in other markets. I assume they won’t want to move Karlsson as well but Vegas has always shown they will be ruthless to get star players and they will need to move money out. Making the dollars in and out about the same gives them a better chance to resign Stephenson or marchessault.

Jarnkrok, Timmins are not necessary pieces to have and more cap space can be created moving them.

Resign domi and Bert to play with matthews

Resign dewar and Robertson for bottom 6.

Sign either stolarz or brossiot to pair with Woll

So now have about 20 million in cap space for another centre and 2 dman. Can really go big for the top free agents. If JT won’t waive then you still got 10 million to add to the blue line.

I’ll go big for Montour and Lindholm but would also think short term deals for a couple guys would be a smart way to go too.

Even if JT was willing to waive, the Hawks aren't giving up a pick ( or anything else) to gift the Leafs $11m in cap space. If the Leafs pay JT his $7m bonus on 7/1, the Hawks might take him for future considerations.

Ya I think it is too but figured it might be the rate for him. Less years would be ideal.

Penguins aren't interested in giving up a 3rd for a cap dump

I think Toronto should absolutely 100% offer that contract to Montour.

And that's a big "might" as even at half retained, he will be hard to move at the TDL with his cap hit and JT is not very useful for a 1 year rental....I just don't see the Hawks helping the Leafs clear $11M for free without a bigger plan in place to either flip him or sign him cheaply beyond next year

I think if JT was to move he would want an extension so it would be something like that worked out.

That's complicated as per CBA rules, Hawks can't negotiate with JT until he's their property so Toronto would have to put one in place first

He's turning 31-32 next year. 7 years is ludicrous (although Treliving loves giving term, for a 32 year old it's unrealistic). Also 8 million is an overpay in itself, I'd pay 8 only if it was 1 or 2 years.

Leaf fans have convince themselves that Johnny cement boot is a difference maker that 10 teams will be bidding on

I mean I have him going for a 4th wouldn’t say I think teams will be bidding on him. The whole reason I’d want him gone now instead of next year is because I know he isn’t a difference maker. But he’s still a useful player somewhere.

I do think teams that don’t care about the cap hit will take him for a year after his signing bonus is paid. If JT would waive to a team like that, it’s unlikely but not impossible.
