Elhers For Marner

Created by: michaelk29
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 15, 2024
Published: May 15, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1 Mill in extra cap space to change what RHD you sign. Demelo Might be less. Maybe we spring for Montour. Trading away Marner and Kampf brings in a lot of cap space for a deep RHD UFA Class. You could also use that 1 million on a different goalie, pray Woll doesnt get hurt.

No from Marner and Winnipeg. One year of Marner, as he won't extend in Winnipeg, does nothing for the Jets except waste valuable cap space.

One year of Elhers as well. Elhers was on their second line. I don't understand how getting a 100 point player for Elhers, who has been in the Winnipeg dog house for years does nothing for Winnipeg.

Does Marner make the Jets a better overall team? No, just like he hasn't in Toronto.

An Ehlers trade needs to fill a position of need, top 4 RHD or 2C if he is moved. No just waste more cap space to end up in the same place. So, they should use Ehlers for that.

And a 1st plus $4M less cap space, it just doesn't make sense for the Jets and Marner won't waive so its a moot point.

Lol. The people on this website that have no clue about building a team is astounding. Just because it works in NHL24 doesn't mean it works in real life.

WJ would tell you Matthews won't make his team better if it meant he had to give up Adam Lowry.

Dudes a homer just ignore anything he says

His point is that Marner isn't so much better than Ehlers that it materially changes the team's outlook, which is true, nor does it solve any of their existing roster construction issues. And both are "expiring guys", unless you're under the impression Marner would immediately extend with WPG.

You can't use common sense and rational thought when talking with guys like the one you replied to.

As a Jets fan, I would rather have Ehlers and DeMelo at a combined $10.9mil than just Marner. I'd also rather keep the draft picks.
