Thank god. Most overrated team of the last few seasons. So many people predict them to win and they never do.

Why is a rebuilding team giving up multiple picks for a 35 year old goalie...

Playoff success isn’t easy or some magical formula.

IMO, it starts by firing the social media team so people don't have a reason to hate on the Canes so hard anymore. I personally think that the team is likeable, but the Canes owner seems OK with trolls tarnishing the solid reputation that the team on the ice builds. In this series though, the goaltending and special teams didn't get the job done.

The Canes had a good thing with Anderson and Raanta for a few years, but I'd call the goal tending situation right now unstable. Those guys seem to have aged out of their prime. Either let Kochetkov run with it and have Freddie back up, or find someone who can be a more stable 1A with Kochetkov. Freddie looks OK in net, but he's playing behind a defense that should make him look like a world class goalie. With all of that said, I think Orlov had a much more brutal game 6 than Anderson did.

Its a weird mix of things not happening

Some of its a 2nd line. We haven’t had a good one, even with trocheck
Injuries: scoring last year, PK and defense this year. It always hits at our weak point too. DRD this year, we couldn’t lose.
Goalie performance. We get mid grade stuff and decent offense or great performance with no offense
Special teams goes through weird periods of performance. Although this season’s pp performance was historically bad for us.

So its not one thing that seems to kill us.

Imma disagree with you on the Orlov game but to each their own. Those first 2 goals Freddie let in were unbelievably bad to me.

Regardless of that, you see these issues that just happen to pop up with the canes. For example: out of nowhere this year the canes power play goes cold. Another year the goaltending gets cold, last year they just can't finish. It's always something.

Is it coaching? Is it management? Is the roster just not going to get it done even if they perform?

Personally as much as Rod is a fan favorite, idk how much longer you can take this. Regular season success, collapse one way or another in the playoffs. The canes play a playoff game all year long, maybe their play style as a whole has to be taken into question.

It's just one thing one year, another thing another year.

Im really curious to see what management does, Carolina has an incredibly critical offseason here

I know Rods a great coach, but do you look at the coaching? do you look at the management?

I look at management. They haven’t done well imo. They have failed pretty frequently to get cheap depth. Their value deals have been bad, outside of chatty and noesen.

I would look at hiring a pp consultant.

they lack a franchise player.
7 of the last 10 cups are teams with a franchise level forward.
Your odds of winning without one are low.

yeah but like you are not just going to go out and just stumble upon a franchise player, that's a lame excuse
Guentzel, Aho are pretty damn close this year

dude I watched Guentzel for years, I think he's a good player. He's no franchise guy.
Neither is Aho.

No you just aren't going to stumble onto one. That's pretty clear. But without one, it's really hard to win.
You have to be a team without any holes if you don't have that guy. That's hard to do in the cap era.

yeah I guess you do kind of have to have that guy who can just take over a game.

Not really how you do that outside of getting one through drafting.

Praying San Jose has this covered lol

Panarin was undrafted.
But yeah, drafting is most likely way.
Sometimes you just get lucky. Other times like McDavid or Crosby you know at draft.

Either way, you either build a perfect team with no holes, or you get one.
Right now DAL is the closest example of a team without one that might have a chance at winning. But we'll see. I think they will have a hard time with FL as I think FL comes from the East.

On that first goal, Orlov had time and space, but he softly pushed the puck to the other side of the ice. It was a bad turnover, but you are right that it also should have been saved.

On the fourth goal, Orlov had a brainfart and iced the puck unnecessarily. I don't have a replay on hand, but I remember thinking that it was like he was just dumping it in from well behind the red line, or maybe he thought someone who was changing was going to chase it up ice. On the ensuing faceoff, the Rangers got possession and scored and never looked back.

I think those mistakes were pretty critical, and both seemed completely unforced. And I am by no means an Orlov hater, but those plays both stuck out to me when I watched them.

Idk avs could comeback and win the series. Whatever happens there offseason is effed due nuke distraction and landeskog injury. It's gonna be really interesting who resign and and who doesn't. I know Mittlestadt will be the first priority
