What he said.

Ottawa returns Boston’s 24 1st and prospect for Ullmark. Might work for both teams. Now convince Ullmark to waive. Good luck with that. Sens better open the vault with a ridiculous overpay extension to get him to consider .

Don’t even think it will require a ridiculous overpay. I could see it be a 3 year NMC and then a 15 team NTC plus a market contract. With the way he focused on not being traded, I think security might be pretty important to him

Don't think Ottawa is interested in having both Ullmark and Korpisalo on the books post extension.

Also Ullmark can only block 15 teams after July 1st, would he even have Ottawa on that list? Considering LA was the 16 team list from this year probably covered most of not all of the West only

I'd imagine this would be a no go. Sens are fairly committed to Pinto.

Ullmark wouldn't be a problem extending...hopefully.

He currently has 16 team list. The consensus is it is the entire Pacific Division, remainder of Canada, leaving 4 more teams. Safe guess would be Zona, Colorado, Columbus, Buffalo. Doubt you’d be wrong by more than 1.

He gets to submit a brand new list for next year. With only 1 year left he can remove some teams that are set in net and will not trade for him, i.e. Vegas, Winnipeg, Seattle etc. and replace them with other teams.

He will control his destination.

It will likely be his last big contract before the short term/less $ deals as his career winds down. It’s also the last time he will have this much control over where he plays.

It is not going to be Ottawa unless they give him a reason to or there not other options.

It’s just reality. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The interesting aspect is if he gets traded to Jersey, I doubt he gets an extension. Teams on his NTC can be positioned to provide an extension as a condition of the deal. If anything, I think he used his NTC as a mechanism to secure stability. I know you disagree, but I think his agent would be not OK with the strategy you are suggesting.

I assume any team that trades for him likely try to extend him. 🤷🏻‍♂️

There are exceptions. Avs got Kuemper as rental, won their cup, let him walk to get younger/cheaper in net, which i imagine they are regretting. But that is another conversation.

It’s one year. You seem to forget that. He is likely far better off playing out his contract, wherever it is, walking as a FA then negotiating with multiple teams and choosing the situation that is best for him as opposed to having only one team to negotiate with, especially if it’s a team/city he’s not all that crazy about going to.

That is an option for him as well. He does not have to sign an extension where he is traded to unless he likes it there, or they give him a reason to.

This is the entire point of having that NTC, control, making sure you don’t end up in a bad situation or a city you don’t want to be with multiple years left.

If you think an extension with trade protection in a place you’d rather not be is more important than going where you want to go, where you can get trade protection as well, then I don’t know what to say. 🤷🏻‍♂️

BTW, don’t be surprised if NJ is on his next list. Have you been to Newark? He could be moved to them before that though.

The primary difference is it is one year where the likelihood he will be separated from his kids or traded to a situation that might not be favorable to his stat line is possible (if not probable).

Elias Lindholm turned down 8 years, 8.5M AAV to get to another market. Let’s see how much that costs him. After this playoffs, maybe not so much.

After the two previous years, he’s at his apex for earning right now whether you choose to ignore that or not is irrelevant.
