The thing with a Necas trade is we'll be looking for young forwards rather than picks. Not that 2 firsts is a bad price or anything, but you gotta remember we aren't a rebuilding team

I really want Necas and I hope he’s the Habs #1 Target this off-season for a Dach type of trade.

Would this be enough? Try to be in Waddell’s position

To Montreal : Martin Necas and Kuznetsov ( Dump )

To Carolina : 2024 1ST (#24) 2025 2ND And Logan Mailloux.

Overpay. The sheriff is not worth trading. Matheson with Farrell and a 2nd round pick from Canadiens for -> Necas is the most I would do. Otherwise they can shop Necas else where. He is a defensive liability. Necas had 55 points last season compared to Matheson who had 62, one is a first line forward and the other "supposedly" a bad defenseman. Matheson is not, he is very good, albeit some people do not like the way he plays. (Both had a negative +-. Usually this statistic doesn't mean much, but when you are on a good team this should not be the case. Necas should have been at leas +5 imo. Instead he had -9. Even some of the best players have a negative +/- when on losing teams, which is why Matheson's is also poor at -24.) I really hope the Habs don't overpay for Necas!

Then what is Seth Jarvis worth? Caufield and Guhle. Come on. Necas cannot be worth that, and if the Hurricanes resign him to 5.5 million over 8 years, then the Canes will have to give up someone else to sign. Snap up one of their other talents.

I wish CapFriendly would send out data on this…

Martin Necas will be the most traded player on this site for the next 2 months, and it won’t be close.

The Hurricanes don't need Matheson, they already have Skjei who plays a similar style. What they need is a big, gritty defenseman who is built for playoff hockey - hence why Xhekaj is a vital part of this trade.

It’s going to take one of Hutson Guhle Reinbacher and Mailloux. Maybe Xhekaj.

Hutson is like Makar. He’s going nowhere. Reinbacher we just drafted #5 isn’t getting traded. He’s a RD and the organization values him very high. Guhle is the pillar of the dcore and has been here for years. Not moving him. Reports tell Hughes wants to get him and Slaf done to long term deals this summer.

Leave us with Mailloux. He’s a very promising RD. He’s still a Timmins pick. He’s going to be traded.

And Arber is worth too much. If they want him then they can send a 1st round pick over instead along with Necas, as an over pay back to the Habs. Because Necas does not equal 3 first round picks. I would want a 1st and a 3rd for Arber minimum. Kent isn't even listening to offers for Arber. Which is why I suggested Matheson.

Hahaha. True, he will either resign, or the trade will come from one extreme or the other. Anywho. It'll be a hot topic for a minute.

Xhekaj is a deal breaker in any trade for me.

If Necas will cost this much in assets and is going to cost a lot to sign too then why is he a good target for Montreal? Just sign Marchessault or Toffoli instead and keep Xhekaj plus 2 first round picks.

That would leave us with Reinbacher as the sole RHD defenseman in our pool, which is poor. Maybe Konyushkov can fill that gap, but he's still signed for another 2 years in the KHL and he's more of a joker card.

You know Skjei is a UFA, right?

Yup, and I think they should highly consider re-signing him. He played a huge part in their powerplay

This comment tells me everything I need to know. Skjei’s contribution was primarily at even strength and as a valuable PK unit with Pesce for his entire tenure with the Canes. He played on PP2 just this year, and only slotted up to the top unit in the last 2 playoff games of the year.

I would re-sign Skjei over Pesce personally, but if my money was on the line…I’d say neither return.
