Jones

Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 19, 2024
Published: May 19, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I purposely tried to make these no brainers for the other teams involved to avoid any foolish arguments and show what's possible for our own roster. Marner would be exactly what the Krakken need, and unlike the leafs they would still have cap to replace borgen and daccord immediately, taking advantage of their trade value to a cash strapped team like the leafs. The Chicago trade is a lot, but I want to see how inevitable the pushback really is. Either way, heading into this draft with picks 2 and 8, while adding a solid #4 in liljegren and what's soon to be a top 6 mainstay in robertson, not to mention the cap space opened up to add through free agency... yeah, probably don't pull the trigger as the leafs but it's a good starting point for conversation at least. In either case, we'd be clearly establishing a championship window, and I think this team would be more threatening than ever before.

Ah that's right. So Bowman traded that away, and KD knew it was obvious this team needed to be torn down to the studs with no 1st rounders because of the jones blunder. Therefore we made trades with Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto and got back 3 first round picks as a result. Wow, imagine if we had that #6 pick as well...grrrr

Having #6 as well would have been nice but at the same time, Jones has brought some good things to the Hawks. Just look at how bad they were without him this past season. Plus, he has been a great mentor for players like Vlasic.

That's true, but nonetheless, massive overpay for Jones both in the trade and on his contract. Bowman was such a bad GM that got gifted an all-time best roster. Grant it, he had to manage the cap situation to get the 2 more cups, but that's a lot easier than reconstructing/retooling (which he failed at) or a complete rebuild.

That's true, but the bigger issue on Debrincat coming out of the rumor mill in Chicago, was even at that time, he told Chicago he won't sign an extension. Chicago was smart knowing that, and while everyone flamed Chicago for the trade, Ottawa found out the hard way and ending up loosing big in the end on that deal. Lots of rumors circling that Cat wanted to go to detroit ultimately and that he would never sign an extension anywhere.

Yeah, I remember hearing a lot of speculation about that. Judging from his "Thanks for everything, CHI" letter, it sounded like he was happy to make CHI his home. But yeah, I'd bet that if he saw Toews, Kane, and everyone else gone, along with another losing season, he would've been like "Nah, I'm good." and CHI would've ended up with nothing.

He never bought a home in Chicago and didn't spend the offseason in Chicago either. Add to his girlfriend and now wife, is also from michigan. I think he was always planning to test the market to go to detroit....seems to obvious based on the rumors before getting traded out of chicago, how he wouldn't talk extensions in ottawa, and then of course ends up in detroit and immediately signs an extension. With Kane gone, it's a no brainer he was gone. Ottawa got fleeced and Chicago did pretty good if Korchinski becomes what we think he can in a couple more seasons.

Huh? Yeah he had a completely renovated house in Roscoe village. It was beautiful actually. But they sold it pretty quick after the trade. I think there was an article about it after the trade with a link to the Zillow profile.

But, yeah, definitely. If Korch turns out solid, we are good. If Ludwinski is solid too, even better. Plus the 3rd this year, which should also be a promising player. We'll see how he transitions to pro, but I like Ludwinski A LOT. I don't think he gets nearly enough love. Then again, not many people pay much attention to prospects outside of checking stats now and then.

Just popping in to say I would accept this trade as a hawks fan. I like Jones a lot! But I think by the time the hawks are ready to really compete and fight for the playoffs, I’m not confident Jones will be a significant contributor at the NHL level.

I’m not saying we need to dump Jones for any offer. But if someone offers us good futures (like the top 10 pick here) and we don’t have to retain more than $2M? At the very least I’m not hanging up the phone haha

Maybe. But that's a lot of money, a lot of cap hit, and a lot of years, to be tying up. I don't think I would go to $2M, which would be $12M total. Plus, he has full control. Jones should be on a contender right now, and I feel for him, but, yeah, CHI should not bend over backwards to make it happen. An 8th OA pick should be a good enough offer for KD to take it to Jones and his agent and see what they want to do, though.

yeah. I used to party a few houses down from there too. My buddies rented a 2-flat right at Roscoe and Addison back in like, idk, 2006-2008. My first real "going to the city to party" experiences right in that transition from being an idiot teen to being an idiot adult. haha.
