Based on The Athletic's pick values, 14+33 = 7.7 GSVA while 8 is 6.3 GSVA. Generally speaking (based off looking through 18 trade-ups in the 1st round) the team moving up in a trade overpays by around 10-20%, so that 22.22% overpay is at the high end of the price range before adding in Bordeleau.

The Kraken don't have a high end defenseman in their pipeline so they aren't particularly likely to trade back so maybe they need the massive overpay of throwing in Bordeleau, but my guess is they just don't move the pick at all.

Great post title!

Like the attempt to trade up to #8.

Schmidt is a good capdump addition. Probably need to move one of our other D to make space for him.

Interested to see Toronto fans' reaction to this trade.
