Leafs with Marner and Tavares trades

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 20, 2024
Published: May 20, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Very unlikely but I wanted to do a scenario where both Marner and Tavares were moved.

Cap works with a 22 man roster. I just left Timmins and Jones in for depth.

Thoughts?

Marner might waive. Tavares isn't unless CHI is signing him to an extension which would be very stupid for CHI.

If they are trading for Marner, Seattle probably shouldn't be trading their best goal-scorer in McCann.

I'll also hope that the Marner-fan club could play with him one day. Marner Jr down the middle and Moldenhauer on the other wing.

I doubt Tavares would want to sign an extension with any team. TOR is his hometown and his family is well established there. If anything, he would hope to finish his contract and then sign a very team friendly deal with TOR to finish his career there.

I won't presume to know Tavares' primary motivation. But I seriously doubt TOR is offering the best extension option and I know Tavares stands to lose a massive sum based on the outcome of his tax dispute.

Hawks probably consider taking JT after his bonus is paid on 7/1. Deal benefits both teams. Don't see Montour signing for $6m per though.

I will presume to know JT's primary motivation. haha. Well, I guess I can't say anything with absolute certainty. But that is why he went to TOR in the first place. Hometown, family is all there, his wife supposedly has a successful business that is entrenched in the TOR area, etc. I'd bet he takes a team friendly deal. He isn't likely to get much in his next deal from any team, anyway. So, if he wants to end his career at home and wants a cup before he retires, I don't see why he wouldn't take a team friendly deal and finish out his career on a team that still has a shot for many years to come. But, we'll see.
