So, there's a lot of teams making ACGM's for Necas then putting him in the middle. I just want to clarify some things.

He isn't a "natural center". Despite what one very bias and very weirdly wrong Canes fan tries to convince everyone, he's only really spent one season with some time in the middle.

The issue is Necas wants to play center but he simply doesn't have the required tools a center need to be super efficient there.

He can't win draws. Simply put. He sucks in the dot.

He isn't good defensively. Yes, read that again if you disagree. He's never been good defensively. Rod simply refuses to put him in the middle because he just isn't great there.

Now, that being said, he's still an excellent winger. If you want him, it'll still cost a good chunk.

Just don't expect to play him as your teams 1/2C and have him be an efficient player there.

Thanks for your analysis. Certainly if Necas was a good centre....he would have filled that position instead of have KK and 6h4 trading for Kuznetsov.
Similar situation with Leafs Nylander. Yeah he can play centre in a pinch, but he is much better winger.

You could "get by" playing him in the middle if you had do. But long term? No.

A canes fan was trying to make the argument that he spent 13 years or something playing center? Lol. A lot of NHL players played center in what, peewee? Doesn't make him a center at the NHL level

Seems like a grounded, sober take. What do you think Carolina wants back for him?

Ideally, an immediate replacement. More ideally, a hockey trade.

But, that might be tough to come by. If we have to take a 1st+ a decent prospect then flip it, we'd do it.

Though I think Waddell wants to keep him. He's just gonna have to deal with a player that doesn't want to be here, I guess

Actually, his defensive analytics aren’t bad, they are pretty average. We just don’t know if he is a 50 ots winger or a 70 pts one

A young center either currently playing top-6 or has top-6 potential (Matty Beniers or Conor Geekie come to mind)

Losing face offs doesn’t mean you can’t play center and that’s been the biggest reason CAR won’t play him there. Face offs are overrated and anyone on the ice can take them anyways.

No, but being bad defensively adds to it. He's not great down the middle.

Thinking that's a bit aspirational unless Carolina is adding. Necas needs a new contract and presumably wants to get paid. Add his defensive deficiencies to only having one season past the ~55 point mark is gamble that he's going to open up in a more free flowing system.

He's probably a fine complimentary winger with his shot and his speed but he's not driving the plays himself, he's riding passenger.

He's a very good play driver and I'd be fine paying more if it doesn't come in the form of roster players or our four big prospects

Those numbers are....... not great. I don't know that I'd be willing to move more than Strome and pick 35 from Anaheims perspective.
