its almost 0 that burns is traded

noesen, chatty, and especially drury arent worth those deals to us. Noesen cant handle 2nd line duties, he doenst have the skating.

Burns can only be traded to 3 teams, one of those is Dallas. They wouldn't want to take on his cap hit. I think Florida was maybe another team he didn't have on his No trade list and they definitely won't take on his cap hit. So you're stuck with him or you buy him out.

They don’t need to (and wont) trade Burns. Just need to manage his minutes and matchups differently.

Guentz isn’t taking a shorter deal. If he stays it’s gonna be 7-8 years most likely.

Necas sitting out next year?

Sharks would 100% take him back for future considerations if he's willing to go back (with the guarantee to get dealt to a contender at the deadline). Especially if it prevents a buyout. If he gets bought out then that adds an extra year of no retention slots for the Sharks.

Would also be beneficial to have a true puck-moving RHD on the Sharks blue line for a year to give Thrun or Shakir a half decent d-partner

I doubt he'll want to go back there. If I were him, I'd put Vegas, Minnesota, and NYI as my 3 teams I'd go to. Not a chance they have or make room for him.

Id be fine with Burns if he was moved down to the 2nd or 3rd pairing but I have no idea who would partner with him.

Im fine giving Guentzel more term.

Where you do you find the cap for Necas? I like him a lot but Jarvis and Guentzel take priority over him imo.

The Drury deal might be a little high but I like the kid. Him Noesen and Chatty all bring a level of aggression and a work ethic that this team cant lose. Also they all have potential to play a big part in special teams (Noesen PP, Drury and Chatfield PK) which makes their deals more worth imo. I originally had Nadeau over Noesen but I was worried about that line taking a beating but overall I didnt think to much about line structure more just finding cap space for the guys I want.

noesen is a wonderful filler piece for the org at league minimum but he is the classic case of role player who has earned a bigger contract that you let walk. overpaying for role player is bad for cap management. awesome guy just cant afford to pay him. his skating holds him back from playing any bigger role than 4RW that helps on the PP.

chatty is fine but morrow is here. chatty would be an excellent defender if the game was just up and down the ice non stop. as soon as the other team starts cycling in our zone, he gets pushed around too much to pay to stay as the 3RD.

drury really isnt anything more than a meh 4C who rode necas for an extra 8-10 points because necas didnt have chemistry with anyone else here. no need paying too much for that.

Could pair him with Orlov or whoever 3LD is. I also think you can manage it within certain games and keep him with Slavin but decrease some of his minutes. Definitely need somebody who can skate and cover for his aggressiveness but I trust Canes coaching staff can adjust defensively as he ages for one more year.

There’s a ton of variations of this offseason for canes which will dictate what to do with Necas. Agreed that Guentzel and Jarvis are priorities one and two. If you get both of them but let most of the rest of the guys walk (turbo Skjei pesce etc) you can probably fit Necas, at least on a shorter deal. But if you can’t or both sides want to move on you should be able to get good value for him in either a futures or a hockey trade. My point was you’ve got to either sign or trade him.

I mean… he definitely slowed down towards the end of this season and was not good on the power play… had to be replaced by TDA and Skjei…

You can’t win a cup with 40 year old Brent Burns as your 1 PP and top pair D.

I didnt like much of anything that Burns did this year. Was useless on the power play for pretty much the entire year and got really sloppy in the defensive third against the Rangers. If he cant perform with Slavin hes probably not gonna be able to do it with anyone else. I get its just one more year but he was not good and he needs to be good if we want to win the cup. His age suggests its decline rather than an off year.

Obviously I think we'll get something for Necas since we have his signing rights. It really just depends on what team wants him the most and what they're willing to give up for him wether its players or picks.

I like those guys but Im not tied down to them. If GMDW can find better deals elsewhere I have no problem making changes I just have no idea what they would look like.

in fairness to burns we were asking him to shoulder all of the shutdown load and be his normal top offensive defender on the team. not really shocked at any slow down from him.

I already said he shouldn’t be your number 1 power play quarterback or a top pairing DMan anymore so yeah… but thanks for parroting…

Anyway, if he’s gonna be a 3rd pairing defenseman at almost 6 mil, you explore trading him. Mike Reilly can play 3rd pairing and run your 2nd power play at less than 2 million and probably distribute the puck better.

I agree. And the Canes will continue to get bounced early. I’m happy you’ve just accepted it. I’ll continue to suffer by getting my hopes up. Lol
