Unless Jones asks for a trade, he isn't getting moved. This certainly isn't going to convince CHI to ask him to waive his NMC, either. This barely pays for dumping Kampf and Jarnkrok. The fire-sale and tank are over in CHI.

Get 0 assets for one of the top players in the league.

Pay for one of the worst contracts in the league.

This kind of move would give Matthews an aneurism that would cause him to retire and re-establish the Yotes as an NHL team.

The Hawks have no reason to move Jones, the cap is not an issue.

Chicago will gladly take Toronto’s 2024 1st round pick for absorbing two years of $4.5m in cap hits (Jarnkrok and Kampf combined) but the Leafs will definitely get no more than FC in return.

Pay? You'd be getting Jones and a 3rd for free. That 1st is to pay for Chicago taking the two cap dumps.

Getting rid of 2 low cap dumps to gain 1 massive cap dump, and paying a 1st to do so.

Jones is overpaid but he isn't a cap dump.

A player is only a cap dump IF the team moving him has to do so, the Hawks have a boatload of cap space so there is no need to trade Jones. Additionally, it makes no sense to trade a guy who plays 25 minutes a game with no suitable replacement to take on those minutes.

He may not be a cap dump in Chicago but he will be a cap dump in Toronto. They'd be desperately trying to move that awful contract in 2-3 years

That’s great but if I’m Chicago I’m not taking a lowball offer now because the Leafs may have an issue down the road. If the Leafs are that concerned about potential problems with players they are looking to acquire, then they probably shouldn’t acquire said player… it’s called cap management.
