Description
Hronek trade done to get a top D prospect in a weaker draft that is heavy on defencemen - SEA potential fit as looking for win-now players to make the playoffs after a letdown 23-24 following their first playoff berth in 22-23.
Mikheyev bought out b/c he has negative value and would require significant assets to unload
All UFAs outside of Joshua and Blueger are let go as they are likely to be too expensive to keep while looking for better finishers on the wings
Ehlers for Garland and a pick realistic b/c Ehlers has 1 year left while Garland has 2 and WPG has trouble attracting FAs so would look for a scoring winger w similar profile that has term.
Silovs contract comp was Kotchetkov as both have similar playing exp. coming out of ELCs.
Arvidsson signed as a stop gap for scenario Lekkerimaki needs time in AHL
Tanev and Roy pursued as replacements for Zadorov, Cole, Myers as both may be more expensive but way more responsible defensively. Tanev and Roy are likely to go UFA as both DAL and LAK have no cap space to reasonably allocate for either.
Kylington an interesting flyer to take as he has limited playing time due to personal issues over past 2 seasons but in 21-22 was excellent as a top 4 piece and did not look out of place during his brief return in 23-24.

There's no reason for Winnipeg to do that. A winger swap doesn't really do anything for them

Trading Garland and a 2nd that could become a 1st for Ehlers doesn’t really make sense for the Canucks. Would rather do something around Hronek for Ehlers (or what we get in a Hronek trade for Ehlers) and then keep Garland

Why would Seattle do that? They can sign a UFA Dman just like you did , and not spend a first.

I see Winnipeg potentially doing it with Ehlers only having 1 year left and needing to replace his scoring/playmaking with a similarly aged player with term (ie. Garland). Since they have a hard time recruiting FAs I see it as potentially feasible.

The allure of a Dunn-Hronek first pair could entice GM Francis enough to make this splash as opposed to looking for lesser solutions in FA. Although I had signed Tanev and Roy, I can say neither are as good as Hronek. With the pressure to make the playoffs after an underwhelming season, I can see SEA making a splash to land some youngish top end talent to make their D-core more dynamic outside of Dunn.

VAN may be interested depending on how negotiations go and how their defence was largely by committee for the second half of the season. They could potentially be interested in selling high and using stop-gap options like Roy and Tanev while they wait for Parekh/Buium to develop. Again this is a somewhat stretch but the market should view Hronek as a top pairing calibre RHD which is rarely on the open market. Since he plays such a coveted position I don’t see it as too unrealistic that his value becomes a tad inflated.

Nothing to do with Garland as a player. More so to do with him being more of a luxury than anything else. He gets paid almost $5 million but does not have consistent chemistry w JT or EP. In that sense I see the best way to maximize his value as selling high to land Ehlers who only has 1 year left. Based on what I already said, I think it is somewhat feasible - especially if WPG wants to add someone with term that can replace Ehlers.

It's not really feasible. It's far more likely the Jets try to fill a hole if they move Ehlers as opposed to targeting a straight downgrade.

I don't know if this is true. Technically speaking they adopted this philosophy when they made the PLD trade as on its surface 23-24 aside Vilardi is a downgrade to PLD.

Well it's a little different when one requests a trade to a specific location and one doesn't.
