Description
I don't know enough about Nashville to fill out the team. It's mainly just the Carolina trade. Hear me out here...

Nashville gets Necas signed for the lower of their 2025 picks. Carolina benefits by adding a 1st (They can trade it for an addition if they choose) and dumping Orlov's $7.75M in an offseason where they need to extend multiple important players.

If Nashville wants, they can ride Orlov's contract out for the year to replace McDonagh. If not, they can buy him out at $2.5M x 2 years.

Kinda playing a guessing game on the Necas contract. He's a good player on a deep team and probably has his numbers stifled by team depth.

Gimmie some grace on this one... Hard to gauge the total value of giving up Necas but gaining $7.75M in cap space. (And vice versa from Nashville's perspective)

I almost lean toward a 1st round pick being too much because it's $7.75M in cap space for a team that needs as much cap space as they can get.

I don’t think they want out from the orlov deal. Don’t think Necas will only cost a (just) 1st. Necas doesn’t deserve that contract.

This doesn’t make any sense for the canes. Orlov isn’t a cap dump either

Seems like good move for Carolina if they are moving are their chips in on Guentzel, moving Necas.

My argument would be he's less important to them than Pesce or Skjei, and at a beefy price tag. He's being paid $7.75M to be a distant 5th in TOI on their defense.

And that $7.75M is huge when you've got Jarvis/Guentzel/Pesce/Skjei as FAs.

Skjei is going to get near 1LD money until he is 36/37. Canes aren’t really interested in that

Its not huge when you have 30 million in space

NSH would definitely be interested in acquiring Necas and full expect it to cost more than just one 1st. The big thing is because while Necas has been playing wing, he can play center, and that is a big reason why NSH would want him

Guessing $30M assumes a KK buyout. (Which I think would be logical)

A huge chunk of $30M gets eaten rather quickly just by Jarvis/Guentzel/Pesce. Doesn't even account for Drury, (Who wont cost a whole lot but is definitely getting signed) or if they elect to keep Teuvo, which seems necessary if they trade Necas and buy out KK.

Seems like the consensus on Necas is that while he may want to play center, he's really not suited for it.

Got it. So they actually only have 13 under contract with $30M in cap... And Jarvis/Guentzel/Skjei/Pesce/Teuvo as the notable FAs.

Yep. I figure Guentzel costs $8M minimum. Jarvis depends on bridge or long term but could cost around $8M long term. That chews up about half their cap space with Pesce/Skjei/Teuvo still unsigned. Clearing $7.75M in Orlov pretty much solves that issue.

I'd think Jarvis and Raymond should be pretty comparable contracts, except Carolina may be more incentivized for a bridge, while Detroit should go for 8 if they can.

Canes pass. Orlov is going to play a big role next year so doubtful they move him. Skjei is going to get a massive deal somewhere else, pesce will look around and if he comes back on a reasonable shorter deal that’s great. Moving Orlov doesn’t mean canes will sign the other guys bc they’ll still likely be looking for their last big payday and if that’s the case it won’t be here regardless of cap space.
