I’m not sure a late 2nd round pick on its own is enough for the Hawks to take Mikheyev’s two remaining seasons at $4.75m per.

Puckpedia’s cap relief calculator estimates the value of 2 x $4.75m at the 21st pick of the first round. Davidson got a much earlier 2nd round pick and 4th round pick for taking 1 1/4 seasons of Zaitsev at $4.25m.

I would counter with Mikheyev and Vancouver’s 2025 1st round pick (top ten protected) to Chicago for FC.

Seversen was signed to an 8 year contract and was 2 years younger. I’m not sure a 8th year for a 30 year old player has a lot of value to the signing team. Maybe the two weeks is worth a marginal prospect like former fourth round pick Cole Spicer.

I'd be fine with just a 4th. Not taking a former 4th though a pick is typically more valuable. I think they will get something for his rights and if it's not at least a 4th I just let him walk. Might not even be about the 8th year but just to get a jump on the market.

I'd just keep him if you have to pay more than a 2nd. Would just have to go with a cheaper 3rd pair.

Pushing the envelope! I like it! haha. I agree, but I think there is a limit to what teams will pay. It's not like he is completely useless, and even if he is completely useless in the playoffs, CHI has zero playoff aspirations, right now. Although, if it were some sort of pick swap, that might be more palatable for VAN.

Yea a 3rd for Lindholm's UFA rights is a bit too steep imo, I like the idea of a 6th/7th and a lower tier prospect so so we can get first dibs if Boston wants Lindholm that badly.

To me it just comes down to how do you get the most bang for your buck with that $4.75m in cap space. If the Hawks tie up that cap space on a very mediocre player like Mikheyev does it take them out of the running for better players in FA like Teravainen this summer or perhaps even someone like Marner or Rantanen next summer?

I’m not opposed to taking cap dumps from other teams but I would insist on market to above market prices. For a good player like Tavares I would take market because of the flippable potential but guys like Mikheyev, Kampf, Skinner, Campbell the dumping team needs to pay the premium because there is a very good chance that whatever you receive as a sweetener is all you are getting for the cap space.

That's very true. One year, fine, but two years could screw us in the long term picture if there are other players we need/want to sign.
