After the press conference

Description
I do think Sweeney will add up front. But not necessarily a center. After listening to the press conference it sounds like they are going to be patient with the growth of the centres they have. Pointing out poitras as an example.
JD I think is gone. But I do think the bruins want Bert back. Neely alluded to the fact that the team couldn’t get to the inside enough. JD is all outside speed. Bert is all inside. Sweeney also said he would be happy to keep both goalies if he can. And I do think he can. See how the season goes and re visit a deadline deal when the value is the highest on Ullmark.

Not enough offense. Who is on PP? I would prefer to use goalie depth to get some offense. I like Zegras -c or Necas-lw with Pasta and Zacha.

I think Bertuzzi is happy in Toronto and if they move one of the ‘core four’, he’s staying! Heinen gets more and as much as I’d like to keep the tandem, Ullmark is gone for another goal scorer or short term center like Monahan or Stephenson.

There is 0% chance they don't resolve the 1C issue this summer. Winning faceoffs was a problem, they're lacking a really good bumper player on PP1, and the many comments about having strong two-way centres. You can draw your conclusions on who the fit is. Should be obvious with the rumours that were flying around at the deadline.

I'm sure Sweeney saying he's happy to keep Ullmark is to not publicly sound desperate about trading him and lose leverage. What do you think happens if Sweeney admits he's looking to move Ullmark? Which is why he said if the phone rings, he'll listen.

Ya I think BOS will treat DeBrusk similarly to how they treated Bertuzzi last year. Explore what's out there on the market, revisit if need be.

Well, they are not getting a 1C because there isn't anyone available or affordable. However, there is a chance they sign a 2C in Lindholm and put him in that role. Agreed on Ullmark.

The problem I see with the UFA center market is risk.
Lindholm seems to be the popular answer but he didn’t have the best season and played bottom 6 in Vancouver.
Monahan had a great season! But his injury history is terrifing.
Chandler Stephenson? I don’t know? How much center vs wing does he play? Stats elevated on the VGK wagon?
Alex Wenneberg doesn’t move the needle. Not sure he’s a number 2 let alone 1.
Ullmark trade to LA for Dubuois? Is there a bruins fan who thinks this is a good idea???
Somehow wrangle the rights to Necas? Might be a natural fit with pasta and Zacha. But does he win draws? Wasn’t he on the wing in Carolina?
I’d love to hear who you guys think is “our guy”.

Ya I didn't mean technical 1C in terms of talent. Was more implying there is a 0% chance they run it back with the same C core.

Lindholm seems like the obvious signing. Next to pasta, my guess is he produces close to what he did between Gaudreau and Tkachuck. Hes coming off a down year and a good playoff. He was good enough to be offered 8, 8.5M AaV from Calgary just one year ago and is the obvious choice in terms of fit and need.

To be honest, if teams low ball him for Ullmark, I could see him keep him and give Lysell a look. Then revisit at the trade deadline when the teams who struck out by acquiring a cheap goalie revisit

My belief is Evan Gold wants Sweeney to keep 5M of that cap room expiring if they trade Ullmark to handle next years contracts between Frederic, Geekie, and the expiring ELC of Lohrei.

Starting to believe a trade of Ullmark comes with an acquisition of someone like Taylor Hall on an expiring vs a long term contract.

I’m really high on Lindholm too because he’s a great two-way center that flourished with two great players on his line and on PP1. Even with the production he’s had the last two years, I’d be wanting to go for him immediately in FA after we sign Sway hopefully before July 1st

Lindholm seems like their target, but he is 30yo and he'll probably not get a good contract. Stephenson is also 30yo and just seems close to Zacha/Coyle's level. The rest of the UFAs are 3rd liners. Necas hasn't played much C and isn't good at faceoffs, but he's 25yo, likely a top6 forward and could get better. It's the only interesting target. However, he will cost a lot and I don't know if it's the guy they should pay for.
