I don’t think they would realistically do most of these trades but I do think that this roster would be an improvement

Is there any reason at all to think jeannot would be as valuable as Robertson? Robertson doubled him up in scoring, comes in on a less expensive deal, has a lot more term on his team control, is much younger, etc, etc, etc. Why wouldn't the Leafs get a Jeannot-like player for free in free agency as opposed to this trade?

It'll definitely cost more if you are trying to dump sheary's contract AND have the pens retain on Acciari

I can see a world where Jeannot is overpaid for again, but for all the reasons @Byrr mentioned, I'd be pretty disappointed with this deal

5 of the last 25 trades Brad Treliving made were within the division he was GM of . So why don't they trade within the division? I found that runs true with most GMs. "Won't trade in the division is mostly fan BS

Who cares what Tre did with previous team? Leafs don’t trade in division; hasn’t been a notable trade in division - involving rostered players - in years. Not going to happen

5 of Dubas last 30 were within the division so yeah . The whole not trading in the division is fan made up BULL💩. Every GM s take on a trade is does it work in the cap and does this benefit my team if he feels the answer is yes he does it if not he doesn't.

Dubas didn’t trade one roster player in division; depth prospects maybe but never a rostered nhler

Think they would for Sergachev. He would accelerate their timeline greatly

Stillman and Doug have already stated they are probably not going to be a cap team next year. Who cares if they pay 50% of Faulk 2 years after next. Retainment will all be done by the time they are ready to compete again.

Well, does this trade accelerate the retool or not? If it does, then retaining 12M definitely matters. And this whole idea that it has to be years and years before they're competing again is silly. We don't know that.

I’d be willing to tie up the money to obtain someone like Serg who is only 25 and signed for the next 7 years. 2-3 years is not years and years. It’s also what the Gm and owner have admitted

As Tampa is in a dire cap/window situation, I find this to be too much retention for the pieces moving. That we could possibly live without all that cap space for a few years is not a reason to do the trade. We can get better value for our buck another way, or by adjusting this somehow. Sergachev would be dandy (though I'm not entirely sure he's worth becoming our highest paid player), but he also makes 8.5, which means this is big cap burden transfer.
