Team: 2024-25 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: May 26, 2024
Published: May 26, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Zary, Greig, Sharangovich and Pospisil can all play center. They'll all compete for spots at center. Hopefully at least one of them will be good enough to replace Backlund eventually.

Iginla and Yakemchuk probably play in the minors next year but both could get a look at some time during the season too.

The Andersson trade seems about right, same with NJD. I'm sure both fan bases will think it favors CGY.

I don't think it's nearly enough to get the 5th overall pick in the last trade. Mostly because I see Pelletier's value much lower than a 1st. I suspect it would cost the 9th overall + 28th overall to move to 5.

I don't see Monahan coming back here. I also don't think Wolf will sign more than a 2 year bridge. The D remains a mess, so hopefully someone steps up.

I think the #10 for Markstrom / #28 scenario is possible, especially if Flames are retaining $3m. If there were another piece involved, bottom-six forward maybe, it would allow NJD to check two boxes at once. Then maybe add one young goalie from NJD (all are waiver exempt) and late pick in return.

Spit-balling….

Markstrom (50%)
Pospisil
1st round pick (VAN)
4th round pick (NJD)

Daws
Misyul
1st round pick (NJD)

Yeah both teams have some crazy fans that think the only trade worth making is one where their team gets a huge overpay for their assets. If it isn't grand larceny they won't like it.

If that's what Montreal wants for 5th then we don't trade with them.

Thats less then the established rate to trade up 2 spots and that was for a mid first round pick
MTL isnt opting out on Iginla who Hughes was the first top mention him as a possible Trade Target over Eiserman who started last summer expected to go 2nd or 3rd overall.

I loved cheering for Pelletier in Junior but i dont want him on the Habs no way , no how.
I wouldnt even consider it for a minute as he only survived by drawing a ton of Penalties and Diving a lot really.
He was on a Stacked team and made teams pay for it any time they took a penalty.

But that was Situational and the System he was in more then anything else.
Jakob would sometimes get caught trying to pretend he's an elite offensive player and the things he'd try would cause odd man rushes galore.
Coach yelled at him every single time "We dont play Selfish Hockey here, its a Team Sport you have a role , do your job or L'Herueux will"

He's a fine Project for a team that can Humble Him, and you'll need to often and a lot.
But MTL aint got time for that and we want no more Subban type personalities no matter how French they might be.
Loved him when he played for us but our Coach could handle him while MSL isnt that Mean, he doesnt have it in him.
The sheer amount of energy wasted on constantly just keeping Jakob focused isnt worth it for a 5'9 ego trip

You guys havent found out but you're about to when he turns Pro at the NHL level full time and finds Validation.
That is unless your Coach can humble him and mold him in ways ours simply cant.
If Patrick Roy was in Charge here then yeah 100% i want in cause Roy who get the most out of Jakob and Humble him
He's chastise him publicly for playing selfish hockey if need be unlike 999/1000 coaches would and Jakob needs tough love

No this site set the market when it reported the Cost to move up 2 spots in the first round was a 2nd round pick later and the better of this years 2nd round pick.
The site keeps track of Facts alone and Reports only whats Confirmed.

You're saying that you're above that and CGY GM has the ability to force teams to do things against their will and that would be self sabotaging all so Daddy can Draft his son.
That Delusional only cause you dont Own your Bias and arent Self Aware of its influence.

5th OA for 9th is a Late 1st and a 2nd in addition to make MTL even consider it
Otherwise we draft BPA and if that isnt Tij Iginla then you can go drive Utah fans crazy with below market trades on a site that literally is a source of all said information

I don’t see Markstrom going for this much no matter where he’s traded. He is now openly feuding with Craig Conroy after what happened this season. He is a distressed asset at this point. Other teams that might bid on Markstrom include TOR, LAK and possibly EDM. I’m not sure what those teams have that interest Calgary in a trade assuming of course Markstrom agrees to those destinations.

I think you should listen to some of Markstrom's interviews. There's quite the gap between being unhappy about a trade falling through and hearing his name in the media despite the NMC, and openly fueding.

I don't see the Flames trading Markstrom for the sake of trading Markstrom.

Considering that the Habs are targeting the same two players in the draft, I seriously doubt they move back 5 spots just to miss out on them both.

it’d need to be Weegar instead of Andersson for the Sens to consider

OTT declines.

There's no way Greig gets traded.

For Andersson he would have to be considered. Sanderson/Andersson would be a very top end d-pair, and he's cost controlled for 2 years. Chychrun for Mangiapane 50% retained is close in value (Chychrun a little more valuable) but I doubt Greig + 2nd alone would get Andersson on it's own. I do think it's fair value, so what's more important - getting a top pair RD or keeping a competitive guy who can play on any line? If this trade opens up the cap enough to sign someone like Chandler Stephenson then as a whole I think that's a positive step forward for the Sens.
