Is it really too much? The first is almost like a 2nd. The odds of you drafting someone impactful are extremely low.
Kakko is having another rough season. He’s 23. I know some players take time to break out but might just trade him now before he turns 24 and his value is at an all time low. Lafreniere has been capable of stepping up but Kakko.. He was drafted 5 drafts ago.
Othmann is looking like more of a 3rd liner than anything else. Very mid prospect despite being a first rounder.
Still, you're giving a 1st+ for Vatrano, who's not exactly a top 6 F himself. A 1st + Othmann should be more than enough, and like Stanley_Cup_To_Manhattan pointed out, is probably not something Drury would be willing to do anyways. Vatrano is also on an expiring deal, so I doubt anyone is giving a 1st for him, which is probably fine by Verbeek.
If Dury made the proposed trade and Kakko turns it around with a change of scenery, Drury would likely never end up as a GM again when he gets fired. I honestly think you guys end up losing Lindgren, so if they can trade Lindgren + Kakko for a top 6 F, and then try replacing Lindgren via FA with a 4M guy that could be an option. Could also be Lindgren for the picks. Maybe they could keep Lindgren too and add someone like Konency with retention for Kakko + some picks. Kakko for a different RFA in a 1-for-1 or 1-for-2 like Rossi or Robertson for example might be an option too. Quite a few guys in his draft class that can use a change of scenery or need a better chance at an opportunity (NY isn't the place). Trading him for a 1st RD pick at the draft might be another option but you probably don't want to make an ACGM suggesting that.
Maybe try a take two without buying out Goodrow and signing Lindgren for 5M, Schneider 2.5Mx1 or a 3M+ 2/3 deal, and see who you could possibly add by trading Kakko. Do need to keep in mind that Lafreniere, Shesterkin, Miller, and possibly Schneider will need raises next year.
