What Leafs fans don't understand is that Seth Jones is an ESSENTIAL player for us. It just doesn't make any sense at all for us to trade him. I like Marner, but that's a want...not a need. We NEED Seth Jones.

That Jones/Marner deal is pretty fair in light of the 5x$11m extension for Marner. Hawks might consider that. The other trade for Lilypad and Timmins is an easy decline. Maybe a 3rd or a 4th. A 2nd? No chance.

How do you figure that? They get the better player by a mile and can go after Montour or Pesce in the UFA market. Leafs aren't trading for that brutal contract anyways.

Because Marner doesn't fit the Hawks timeline, he's going to get overpaid and will be making several mil more than Jones when it comes time to re-sign Bedard, etc. Plus, losing Jones blows up their already shaky defense. Had you been paying attention to the 350,000 previous ACGM's discussing this type of deal, you would have known that.
